The third film was all about conclusion and pay-off. Without leaving a lot of plot strands dangling it couldn't really have asked/posed as many questions as the first two did.

I dunno, I think the aftermath of the film /does/ engage the brain - but not the merits of the 3rd film itself. It's the strength of the story overall. In that respect the story is admirable, and depending on what they do next (hopefully nothing) may still allow the series to remembered with some affection.
