The fact is by design we are omnivorous, if people want to be vegetarian thats fine but there is absolutely nothing wrong with eating meat and people who do choose not to should stop going on at those who do. (yes i know nobody here is etc)

couldn't agree more! i can't stand the kind of vegetarians and vegans who use it as a kind of ethical 'badge of honor'. at the end of the day, diet is a personal choice and i don't care whether someone avoids animal products wholly, partially or not at all - until i need to cook them dinner.

Don't know about your country but round here they kill animals for food, we don't scavenge for road kill or old/deceased animals. The thing a lot of vegetarians find wrong is the actual killing not the eating.

What about having sex with animals? Do vegetarians find that offensive?

Inn all bloody honesty what do they want from us, to go catch our own meat and slay it ourselves in the proud knowledge we 'naturally' caught our own food.

Surely chasing a mammoth around throwing spears in it while it howls for its life is far more humane then that instantly killing something through the brain?

Amittedly some animals are kept pre slaughter in bad conditions and some arent slaughtered correctly but thats where legislation and laws help out. if its never suffered then i really dont see an issue.

What i take umbrance is the ones who say we dont need to eat meat and thus shouldn't. Well try telling that to a tiger or something, we naturally eat meat because its a huge part of our diet and thats why veggies/vegans always look ill!

Yes and No.

No, because the one(s) I know don't mind me eating meat around them.
Yes, because it's a bitch when places don't have menus that support them.

Its not a bitch when places don't have menus that support vegetarians. Its their own damn fault for choosing to live a dietary life that is different to 75% of the population on the planet. Fuck em.

Do we really have to go through all the song and dance with you again?

Please keep your opinions to yourself as I am sure me and many others would appriciate it if you kept on topic :)

About the killing of meat, I think it's fine that vegetarians don't want to eat food that has been killed in an unethical way, however in 95% of cases they are killed in a painless way and they lead good lives. I don't think people should choose not to eat meat just because the worst stories are reported on the news :) But as it has already been said, I guess they have the right to eat what they want. Although I do stand by my earlier statement.

Why is it if you go over to a vegetarian for dinner they won't cook you a steak or a sausage, yet if they come over to yours, you gotta go out of your way to make them some vegetarian dish.

They won't even ask if you don't mind not having meat. Certainly wouldn't offer to cook you a steak. Not even a chicken's bum on a rice cake.

because it isn't interfering with your belief/culture, to throw together a salad for them. they don't want to deal with meat, period.

now VEGAN's on the other hand, are selfish bastard terrorists that would do good being shipped to a small island so they can eat their non nutritious "food" all they want and leave the rest of the world alone to do as they please with their food.

sure. but Lamp was bitching over the fact that he wasn't getting meat when he's eating at a vegetarian.... so tell HIM that, not me.

ironic isn't it? he's complaining about that and yet expect everyone to make him whatever he wants....

One of my ex GF was a vegetarian when I met her. I just started to cook meat every day and she started to eat meat (again).

Human race is on top of the food chain (unless you take microorganisms like bacteria into the equation that are inside us or so), I don't give much about the painless killing argument, it's bullshit - I assume that when an animal is dying it's not nice for it either way.

I am prolly one of the few here who killed a pig with an axe and used the blood (for black pudding e.g.).

I don't mind a meal without meat, but I prefer meat every day.

I was raised in a way where we did all by our self - taking care of own wheat, potatos, gherkins..., pigs, chicken, rabbits, cherries and so on.

Sure, it lot of that industrial meat tastes badly and I'd definatly prefer to eat meat from animals where my family raised them or I know how they have been raised, but that's not possible any more. Times changed for me - spent half of my life among animals I ate later ;-), the other in a large city with supermarkets.

It shouldn't be too hard to make a special portion of a dinner, especially if someone is your guest, without meat. Got to respect that.

I'm the kinda guy who respects other peoples homes. In all regards. It's a really "northern part of finland" attitude.

If i go somewhere and they cook something, i might not like it a 100%, but i'll eat it and food is always food. Also i know how to compliment something, that might not be my "cup of tea", in it's own edium. You can always find something good to say and it costs nothing.

If someone comes around to my place, i ofcourse expect the same respect, but i also am considerate enough to ask "do you have allergies, do you like this and that" and i do it before people come around, so i can cook accordingly.

Sure, it would be nice to get a big a** steak at a veggies place, but i'm not one to get pissed off about other peoples way of life.

It's a whole different thing though, when someone comes and says "you shouldn't eat that!" or someone who comes to my home and starts telling me, how i should live/cook at my place. That's just poor behaviour.

That's the whole point of this thread - it shouldn't be too hard to make a special portion of a dinner, especially if someone is your quest, with meat. Got to respect that. It has to work both ways or neither ways.

A good friend of mine is a veggie, when me and my gf go for dinner she cooks us meat and cooks her bf meat also. I never met another veggie who would not though, in fact I know my other veggie friends wouldn't.
That's really good point u made.

It's not exactly the same though. If you invite someone over for dinner you don't have to make their favourite dish, but you should at least make something they can eat. You wouldn't serve fish to someone who's allergic to fish either, would you? Non-vegetarians can eat a dish without meat, vegetarians cannot eat a dish with meat. Unless it's your belief that it's wrong to eat a dish without meat, of course.

In all honesty, the first thing i'd do if a Vegan/Vegetarian attempted to force me to sit and eat a load of veggie crap without asking me, would be to get up, flip the bird and go get a take-away.

If they asked and checked it out whether I liked the stuff or not, fair enough.

Vegetarian doesn't have to think that eating meat is wrong to be vegetarian, vegetarian is a person who doesn't eat meat for whatever reason - which, from my experience, is usually that they dont like the taste of it. Is it the special tittle "vegetarian" that gives them better treatment? Should we give similar tittle to people who dont eat dish without meat? Carnivorians or something? "I made some veggie dish, hope you like it" -> "Sorry, can't eat it, I'm carnivorian".

...although I'm fairly sure carnivorian would prefer his ice-cream without chicken so the tittle would need better description :p

If I were to ask a vegetarian over for dinner, I would serve a dish without meat. If I were to invite my friend who doens't like rice over for dinner, I wouldn't make a rice dish either. It just seems a bit silly to do: "Hey, do you want to come over for dinner? I'll make that dish that always makes you puke." As I said: cooking their favourite meal isn't necessary, but it's common courtesy to cook something that doesn't make them puke and/or doesn't go against their beliefs.

Yes, naturally. Should this have something to do with my post?

Well, in your first post you said that it shouldn't be hard for a vegetarian to cook a dish with meat. I replied that they shouldn't cook someone's favourite meal, but just one they can eat (and usually non-vegetarians can eat a dish without meat). I apparently stressed too much on the belief in that post though, because you replied that most vegetarians just don't eat meat because they don't like it. I replied that in that case as well, it seems normal (and not some form of better treatment as you said in your post) to me to cook a vegetarian dish for them.

I might just have misunderstood you though :).
