Nothing to lose, dont cost a penny, roll a char, have some fun, keep daoc alive for those that want it to.
Uthguard is acutally quite entertaining. Decent population of around 800 a night, plenty of rvr, pelnty of levelling groups, no lag, nice friendly folk and free.
Dont know why freeshard talk or links are banned, as i would happily pay £16 a month if Dyvet had the same population as Uthguard, but unfortunately it doesnt.
Give it a try its free, and soon rvr is going to OF, well before Mythic get round to do Origins....

Population cap for Uthgard is 550.
Wrong! A few months ago they had a population of higest ever - 697 or something.
I dont get it why they dont just add 400% xp or something. Whats the point of having old school leveling? Especially since they dont allow bots.
Insta 50 would also be an option ofc but i guess too many idiots would roll there and destroy the "feeling" of the server in that case. But it would be nice with /level 30 or 40 with some xp bonus and free starter gear though. Think pop would get even higher in that case.
With 700 users I think we are at a limit to provide good service. We had 1MB/sec upload and 30000 Daoc-Packets/sec outgoing. CPU is around 70% in that situation and I see that as the maximum for lagfree gameplayThe more RvR is happening the more traffic we will get and possible lags could start.
So 700 seems a resonable limit until we have better server (we already have powerful hardware) or optimized the server software enough.
Here are the specs of the new server:
• Athlon64™ DualCore 4600+
• 1.024 MB RAM
• Windows XP Professional 64-Bit
• .net 3.0
I understand that, hence why i said keeping the idiots from the server. I still think old school leveling is kinda retarded to have on a FS server. I mean even with 300 or 400% xp bonus it will still take quite some time to get to 50 if the only way to xp is soloing without buffbot or grouping with other players. The point is that you really have to stick with it to get to a higher lvl, thus keeping out the people who are looking for a quick DAoC fix.
So not 800, but 700 is the cap atm (i think ). Kinda funny to see how much traffic and cpu power DAoC server generates/uses.

Im guessing running a FS server can be very demanding for the HW since its only one process that controls all zones (unless they changed that recently). Im also guessing (and i think i read about this years ago somewhere) that an official daoc server uses several servers for the zones to even out the load.
lvl 44 infil on uthgard
6 /played days
No lag, around 600-700 ppl on at prime ( seen 750 at one point )
Alot of oldies playing.
Soon OF zones..
Really don't even see the reason to even begin to try and slander this server, what could you possibly gain from that ?
