Any good ADSL providers out there?

After nearly 2 years playing online games with my "trusty" WinModem, I've decided it's time to upgrade to Broadband.

As cable isn't available to me yet, I've decided to opt for ADSL. Any suggestions on a good ADSL company/provider?

Nildram - They're just about to upgrade their main pipe (wednesday) and will soon be offerng 5 static IP's on all ADSL subscriptions (useful for gamers with home networks). I'm with them and have had no problems at all, and ping about 20-30 ish in RtCW, Q3, Dod etc (to barrysworld, jolt, BY etc servers) and that's b4 the upgrade. Plus people who work there actually do listen to their customers (they regularly post in www.adslguide.org.uk forums, about upgrades and to reply to complaints).

I had a butchers @ the Nildram site and noticed they are affiliated with Jolt.co.uk
Jolt also offers an ADSL service. Is this and Nildram's ASDL service 1 and the same?

Yes. I signed up with Jolt as they were cheaper, but last was the last I heard from them. My account, documentation, equipment, network etc are all from Nildram.

It rocks. You'll be happy with your choice.

I contacted Jolt, they reckon if u sign up wiv them they'll make sure u get on Nildram's optimised pipe 4 gaming

Dont get Clara ADSL for sure unless of course you want 200 ping on their game servers for the bargain price of £50 a month .

After the 12 month contract ends with BT Openworld, (Still 9 months away) can I keep the USB Modem and then use another broadband supplier with the same modem and phone socket?

I believe that you have to give it back to BT, as you are only renting the modem from them. If this isn't the case, please correct me.

I think that's what's supposed to happen, but when our old ADSL contract ran out, BT didn't come to collect their modem. Maybe just an isolated case, but I dunno

I think my 12 month BTO contract is nearly up. Just heard Nildram is down to £29 per month. Should I go for them then ?

Is that the same one that's getting 5 static IPs (I neeeeed that) ? And the same one that's game-optimised ?

Nildram have improved a lot lately with the installation of a 155megawotsits pipe. They have good customer support, and are active in adslguide.org forums.

Dunno about the ip addresses, take a look here for more info.

From wot i've been told yer best bet is to go for Jolt. they are offering adsl thru the Nildram network, so it's exactly the same service, but if u order thru www.jolt.co.uk they make sure u get put on the optimised pipe 4 gaming

The Nildram gaming optimised pipe

Nildram had to recently upgrade their main pipe from 34mb to 155mb. This fixed all the problems users were having and all is now fine.
Nildram still have the 34mb pipe and have suggested that they may offer switching of gaming users to this pipe. This would seperate the gamers from the p2p 24/7 leechers (which are the people who caused the ping problems that prompted the upgrade to 155mb) and hopefully mean a much better gaming connection. I'm guessing that they may also put traffic shaping measures into place to prioritise udp traffic, etc, meaning more priority is given to gaming traffic than, say, downloading.
I for one would be happy to d/load at just 30/sec if it meant a lower ping
I'm surprised Jolt are making promises when Nildram haven't confirmed anything yet, but suffice to say, if your a gamer on Nildram, you will get onto the gaming pipe when/if it becomes active. Obviously it's more obvious that people tagged 'jolt' in their system will want this so Jolt are selling it ....... but I suspect it is just to 'justify their existence', as Jolt users wont get onto any gaming pipe quicker than Nildram users. Infact, nildram volunteers on the adslguide forums will probably be the first to get on it before it's offered to the masses.
