Just out of interest, how do you type a word like "hello"? Just go over H E L O and it'll work out the double l?

you do a loop or zigzag over the L, you don't have to be accurate, you can move very quickly.

Dys - the beta was designed for the nexus one and the moto droid. You get a much nicer layout with bigger keys because of the better WVGA resolution. And you may be happy with the nexus one keyboard, but you will not realise how much better this is until you try it. Android lets you run this side by side with the old keyboard, you can turn it off whenever, and switch between the input methods.

Sounds nice. I'm up for an upgrade right now and my next phone will definitely be an Android one, just not sure which. May wait for the Legend or Desire, or maybe Sony's X10.

As nice as the x10 looks on paper, it is running android 1.5 (or was last I read), all the new devices are running 2.1. I also would not suggest buying any sony phone at launch, their track record with bugs and build quality is shaky at best. The x10 is a phone that should probably only be bought in summer, after Sony have ironed out any bugs and we get to find out if they will support future android updates. The motorola, and HTC phones are currently upgrading their handsets to newer versions of android.

I tried it and it says my screen resolution is not right and I must contact swype...It switches to the swype keyboard but it looks terrible!

Back to stock keyboard then...

Did you try the one I linked? Because that is only for HGVA resolution phones, not the WVGA of your nexus one.

I downloaded 'Tube Downloader' from the market yesterday. Don't know if it's new but I'd not noticed it before. Allows video to be downloaded from YouTube or Google video and stored on the phone for watching later. Also rips the audio from videos and stores it as mp3, I doubt whether music would ever be much cop, but some comedy stuff might be good enough.

Sorry if this is a glen.

Not heard of it before, so sounds good.

Also beware of updating apps without reading the comments first. A lot of the free apps are going the google ads route, and usually without letting you know first.

Ahh, the beta entry is closed for now, I've registered for the next phase. The trial version of swype no longer work, unless someone finds a hacked version?

Using shapewriter from the market for now, can't go back to standard text input now.

Can't remember if it has been mentioned before: https://www.wavesecure.com/

Use the beta now, and get FREE subscription for life.

I installed that a while ago.

The other day I went to the cinema so i turned "Airplane" mode on and Wavescure locked my phone down! I had to enter my pin number to unlock it...but I had forgotten my pin!

So my phone was out of action till I got home again!

I see there is a setting to stop this from happening but I didnt know it at the time...

Yeah it's the biggest complaint, but in their defence if you read the faq or tutorial info it does mention this.

I dont generally read faq or tutorials unless something goes wrong!

The thing is I can switch that feature off but if I can remember my PIN then I don't need to worry!

Its a great app that tells you of interesting stuff in your current loaction such as Restaurants, Bars, Music, Comedy, Film, Art, Bank Machines, Knowledge of Places of Interest using Wikipedia etc...

It is very good indeed!

I'd strongly suggest all download Opera 5 Mini as it's astonishingly quick. Plus, tap to zoom in, double tap to zoom out <3.

I was using xscope for now, but it was not as nice as dolphin, although much faster. Will give it a try.

No but I always seem to end up using it as other browsers always have something in them that really annoys me :(

I prefer the Nexus One stock browser.
It's not quite as quick but at least it has multi touch...

Being on a hero I can't compare, but I don't find Opera needs multi touch zoom with its double tap functionality.

Opera mini lasted 30 minutes with me, double tap zoom seemed like a good idea but I was always wanting a zoom level somewhere in between. The start page also bugged me by not letting me delete the existing links, probably doing something wrong but it should be a simple task.

I got a Hero back in November, and tbh I love it.

Yes, it's a smidgen laggy at times, but it's still a great phone.

The one drawback being the shite BT support, as you basically need to root (jailbreak) the phone in order to receive files over bluetooth.

Other than that I'd recommend it wholeheartedly.

As for the default browser, I love it. It always zooms to the right level for me when I double tap, and it re-flows the page layout on the fly to fit onscreen.

cba to read the thread, but:

"Delete Old Messages"

The Hero is shite at deleting large amounts of messages, and if you're like and let them build up, then this app is superb. It allows you to delete messages in bulk within a certain time frame (older than 1 day, older than 1 week, older than 1 month etc.) and gives you a nice little progress indicator plus a button to cancel.

Definitely recommend it.

So with the 2.1 update coming, are there any other recommended backup options for text messages and date stored on the phone memory other than wavesecure?
