It's a shitter, and I'm sorry to hear it. you'll probably find that it doesn't take long to get what you need. Administrators tend to be extremely effecient. It's kind of in the nature of what they do. They want to get it done, finished, and move on to the next carcass to start picking the bones of.

Good Luck.
Actually what they want is to rack up fees. The fees they ran up on Woolworths were immense (though not PwC in that instance).

Yep, they bleed any capital dry and leave the rest to pay creditors 4p in the pound.

What's the alternative? Hire incompetent administrators that will miss- or under-price assets or totally balls the job up otherwise? The administrators have to make a profit else why would they do it. They have to employ armies of forensic accountants for weeks or months at a time - all very highly skilled and educated people who are paid well.

It is what it is, it costs money to liquidate or sell a company. Frankly, 4p on the pound from the shitheap that was game would be a miracle. I'd be surprised if there are any assets at all worth anything. The directors will presumably swan off to their next company to bleed dry and not face any action for running a company they barely owned so badly. Is there a viable business left in there you think? Personally I doubt I'll ever by a boxed game from an actual shop again in my life.

I'm not saying there is an alternative, I just don't think that anyone should be under the misapprehension that the Administrators are lovely people that are only doing all this out of kindness. It's a job, they'll get paid and I'm not complaining about that, doesn't mean that they're efficient or good at what they do.

That's still better than 0p in the pound if there were no administrators and they just collapsed.

Walked past one of the closed Irish GAME stores in Dundrum shopping centre this afternoon; staff are still holed up inside there and are refusing to budge until they get some help from PWC (it was even worse for Irish Game staff as they weren't even going to get statutory and the administrator is trying to apply UK rules to Irish employees, which is actually illegal), staff have been occupying a number of Irish stores since Tuesday. I kind of think "good on ya" whilst at the same time thinking its probably futile.

Close friend called Becky Lay from Basingstoke is caught up in this tragedy, really feel for you. Although she was only contracting there it still sucks. Badly managed business who did not take the advice given to them.

Regards PwC they are just doing their job which is to protect the creditors as much as possible. Unfortunate but they really do not give a crap about the talent at the business they are winding up or selling.

Yup,

the UK business is now owned by Baker. GAME Group and the international arms remain in administration.

good buy I think... game is deffo a company which can be turned around and made profitable again... all they need to do is shred a few stores(i have a game and a game station with in 100 yards of each other in my town centre) and overhaul the digital download system

And you know, to actually have games in the shop that you can browse through.

yea, and what other dedicated games shops are there too when you think about it? I can't think if any other competition really.. other than supermarkets these days, but that's the same for pretty much every type of businesses

I much prefer buying games in a store than ordering it online and waiting 2-3 days

Steam is an alternative yes but it also irritates me somewhat

I recently discovered that Gamestop here in Finland are often cheaper than online stores or steam for "classic games" new games are at about the same price

Back on topic though i went through being laid off after company went into admin and it sucks, ESPECIALLY the job centre part, they are absolutely clueless, keep at it though, jump through their hoops and apply apply apply is all i can say :)

When you order online you can get your games anything up to a week early before the game hit's the shops if your smart and look out for websites dispatching early.

Failing that you will get your game on the Wednesday/Thursday i always get my games early every time from shopto, there really isn't a reason for me to step in GAME anymore i haven't actually bought a game there for years with actual money, if i trade a few games in sure i'll get a game but i never go for new releases.

Just as a heads up T only about a month ago did I get a form for the statutory redundancy that I was entitled to for Woolworths because we weren't given sufficient notice. That's years after the event btw.

If you have anything in writing about your redundancy mate I believe you may have to make a written representation to the administrators and see what happens. You may still get shafted but as I understand it the process is based upon who's owed the most so the higher up the ladder you are the more likely you are to get paid.

Need to keep hitting up that helpline for the advice you can get mate.

Not strictly true, the form you got was a result of the court ruling recently was it not?

The administrators handed out the RP/1 form at the time, and the 2 stores I was in at the time had a sit down session where everyone had help filling them out.

Tony I was in a similar position to you, I handed my notice in two weeks before administration, and so left under administration. They withheld my outstanding holiday, I claimed it and received it within 3 months of making the claim - however I did not claim until 1 year later.

Well it is strictly true, it was a due entitlement at the time and there was only a court case because the Administrators and/or Government (depending on how you view it) tried to avoid making payment.

Is it worth making representations to the new owners to enquire after a vacancy or has the whole experience just soured things for you?

Thought it was time for an update.

Had a job interview this morning in London. Arrived around 9.45am and was greeted by someone who knew me already. Took me into a room, got chatting and then the HR type person walked in, unfortunately I was engrossed in talking tech to the guy who knew me. Felt sorry for the HR type person. About an hour later they both left and someone else entered the room....

Great conversation and then in my opinion, we started to challenge one another, which is only great for the business. After 20 minutes luckily we hadn't started to fight yet, the HR type person walks back in with a job offer. I sign and start working on Monday next week.

Now, as to where I am working? Clues below:
  • I have had business with one of the Directors in the past.
  • I know of another staff member from BarrysWorld days.
More clues:
  • The staff member has been around forever on the original BW forums and the FH forums.
  • He wrote stuff which was used by a US Police Force.
  • He sometimes finishes stuff he starts.
  • He is larger (in body weight) than when he first arrived on the scene.
  • He worked at GAME (for his sins).
Btw, I now work in the City of London as of Monday :)
On my way home I bumped into someone else at Waterloo Station who was kicked out by PWC. He had just been for an interview and was offered the job straight after the interview. Weird or what? Neither of us knew what we were doing for this week etc.
Custom title to the first person who can guess who I am talking about. The person who I am talking about can take me out for a bite to eat next week (all expenses paid by them and they put me up for a night, it is only fair!)
