Alonso was to blame in the build up to it as he headed it away from Mendy's hands.

We've also sold Zouma to WH, puts us into a net gain this transfer window so far

Conspiracy theory from Curtis. Pep told Arteta to go down to Arsenal and make sure they never recover. He will get paid off, then he can go back to putting the cones out at City training.

The more I think about it, the more I think Allardyce would be good for Arsenal.

The way they are playing, the options they have, they may well end up in a relegation battle, or at least 5/6th from bottom. They have no more money to spend, nobody they can really sell that won't cripple them even more. Some downright terrible players signing new long term contracts.

Allardyce stabilises clubs and doesn't necessarily need any money to do it. It would be great to see what he can do with a "big club"

Weird transfer dealings with Everton, mainly with our outgoings...

Buy Moise Kean for around £20m, hardly play him before taking him to PSG on loan were he plays well....

Comes back to us, plays his last League Cup game getting sent off, then we loan him out for... TWO YEARS back to Juventus with an obligation to buy in the third.. for pretty much the price paid for him.

Something is well off about that, how does that help us here and now if we're at risk of FFP breaches, plus I have serious doubts in 3 years Juve will cough up the dough and try wiggle out of it...

Next it looks like Rodriguez is going, first it was to Milan again for free... So not aiding us with FFP but they backed out due to their wage structure (Clap!) but we might be going a swap + cash with Porto over someone decent.

Inbound, it looks like we have our very own Kane saga, Maitland-Niles begging arsenal to let him come to us but they refuse, seems they're making him train away from main squad now... Ooops.

Major swoop for Soloman Rondon too, one for the future.......

Some very strange transfer totals

How have Arsenal had a net spend of 105 mil, on what? Chelsea have easily got the best value for money, net spend of 27 and still rolled out Lukaku, Spurs on -9.

West Ham have also had a cracking window, shame they couldn't wrap up Lingard too.

Last 5 seasons UTD are at, like, 500m, no?

They need to be winning stuff.

Lollerpool low again.

Not wanting to get into the whole net spend pissing contest again (for some reason some football fans seem to be offended by the concept of net spend - as if balancing the books is somehow dishonest or something) - but since klopp arrived:

Total net spend:

Man City – £481.96million
Man Utd – £422.5million
Arsenal – £291.36million
Chelsea – £246.39million
Tottenham – £167.53million
Liverpool – £144.38million

Personally, I think our lack of spend vs other teams is responsible for our poor defence of the title last season. We lost key players and had no quality backups.

Small but talented squad. Needs more luck with injuries and hopefully not getting too exhausted to have a chance.

I reckon we have had a pretty good window and will be disappointed if we aren't competing for auto promotion, especially as we have just dropped down. But we don't have Ferraris to buy :) Equally entertaining, and the pie and chips are cheaper.

Anyway, I think it's going to be one hell of a season, UTD, City, Liverpool, Chelsea will all be up there. Then you have the likes of West Ham, Spurs, Leicester going for Euro spots.

It isn't a pissing contest, you've generally ended up with the trophies to match your spending but lets be honest a couple of large sales have made your net spend lower but probably cost you trophies.

In this window Chelsea have actually made money.

I don't know why that seems to stick in people's minds. Balancing tge books is a normal thing.

Frankly, "net spend" = actual spend.

Any other metric doesn't really illustrate anything. It just generates headlines.

I notice your disagree @Embattle - but what other useful comparison is there?

If you don't account for sales then spend is a meaningless comparison that tells you nothing about financial outlay.
