I'm generally happy with Tottenham's window, especially because it's January. They got £400+k per week off of the wage bill and replaced 4 players Conte either flat out disliked or didn't fancy (for various reasons) with 2 who are much more to his liking and will most likely play more minutes between them than the 4 going out. There were one or two positions that could've been strengthened but the club has positioned itself nicely for the Summer window imo - there are going to be loads of out-of-contract players floating around.

Agreed, not many people have had good windows outside of Villa imo, and even their big name is a real boom/bust signing. I'm not convinced Newcastle got what they needed, but at least they got a CB.

City sneakily signed an Argie wonderkid centre forward who looks a real prospect. Doesn't join until the summer though.
Liverpool with Diaz as well - he's the perfect successor to Mané. They failed to get the paperwork in in time for that Fulham lad but he would've stayed on loan for the rest of the season anyway and I think they already have an agreement for the Summer.

If I was a Spurs fan (banter aside here), I'd still be disappointed that it appears some of your top targets were not interested. At least it is the same case at Arsenal!

Like who? The obvious ones are Traore, Vlahovic and Diaz but... Traore was waiting for Barca to call (and I still don't think he would've been a good signing), Vlahovic was going to be mental money and it makes more sense to save it and do something in Summer (and by doing the other business with Juve, we basically enabled them to go for Vlahovic which kept him out of Arsenal's grubby mits). It's a bit different with Diaz - Porto already had an agreement with Liverpool for the Summer. We tried to swoop and Porto had to inform Liverpool and give them the opportunity to move now (due to the nature of the agreement). One of those "worth a punt" ones that nearly always fail.

Anyway, Arsenal are taking a hell of a risk. They're basically desperately hoping on finishing in the top 4 with a pretty thin squad and, with the new COVID rule (must have 4 positives for a postponement to be considered), they won't be able to pussy out of any more fixtures. Also, Arteta just seems to be awful at man management - Tomiyasu came back from injury earlier than anticipated before the break and re-injured himself and Partey literally arrived in the country at midday after coming back from AFCON then came on as a substitute later that day and got 2 yellow cards for sloppy, obviously-tired tackles. From the outside it looks like Arteta heaps pressure on the players to be "warriors" or whatever and it backfires more often than not.

Maguire is absolutely awful. As soon as he is faced with pace he is fucked.

The dodgy new handball rule aside, we deserved that. So many chances not taken. Those pens were just immense though.

The pens got better and better (apart from Elanga's obvs). The sudden death ones were better than the first 5.

Positive first start for Lamps, very comfortable win against Brentford.

On to Newcastle now! At least with that result today I'm a bit more confident that we can score goals

Great pen by Mané to win it for Senegal. Most of what I watched of the tournament was pretty crap tbh, there were some good matches at the end of the group stages though.

Question; does football have a higher percentage of wrong 'uns than the general population? Genuine question. It feels like it, but that might be confirmation bias.
I think so. Lots of young men often from tough backgrounds, often with not a lot of education, always with lots of money and time on their hands. Surprised we don't see more wrongdoing if anything. I bet a lot is covered up though.

Money makes problems go away... Rumors say Man Utd knew about this a year ago, if true not a good look

And at the time they had a manager who had previous for protecting a player accused of rape.

Well the sentiment has aged like milk as it were. Much like the "Ryan Giggs the consumate professional never a whiff of scandal!" Types of articles are bit laughable now

Own Goal on for a hat-trick this evening for Newcastle/Everton.

Holgate attempt leads to Lascelles own goal

Well that looked familiar... I also knew we likely would get turned over by them, however we made a fantastic start and it was end to end... Second half we didn't turn up. Which is such a running theme regardless of who is on the touchline.

The injuries did not help, and they likely impacted on us in the second half as that's when we started to lose control. We have two very important matches coming up which we need nothing but 3 points from after that we're in for a tricky couple. We're once again relying on the few teams under us to drop points (Which thankfully barring the Geordies happened tonight...)

I don't know what Patterson has to do to get some games in though, he's an ideal replacement for Coleman yet since signing hasn't made it to the pitch.

Everton were fucking dreadful second half. I'd be worried if I was a toffees fan. Trippier & ASM were on another level to everyone else last night, those two might be enough to keep up Newcastle on their own.

Maybe they should have trusted their champions league winning manager instead of hiring fat frank eh?

Their champions League winning manager who had them winning 1 game between the start of October and the end of Jan?

The stupid cunt has put Westham in an impossible situation, they have sponsors cancelling deals now. The optics are terrible and will affect revenue. They might have to offload.
