Is that the same brand of luck that meant Kenny found my missing watch yesterday?

In the washing machine :eek:

In many different pieces, all of which were distinctly soggy.

Ghost Dog is a bit poor.

I watched Clockwork Orange, well, the last 1/2 of it after the West Wing and 6 Feet Under (which made me laugh quite a lot). It is a good film but it's incredibly dated and very heavy-handed. Why was it that Kubrick didn't want it shown for so long? Was it just that he thought it wasn't very good?

Correct me if I'm wrong (likely) but I thought ACO was banned back in something like 82 when the BBFC clamped down on a load of films.

Kubrick was told if he wanted to release it, he'd have to cut it. He refused.

It's only recently that the BBFC have started relaxing teir guidelines and the film is now able to be released uncut...or near as damnit ayway. Kubricks not around to complain about it either though is he? ;)

If you had seen the start of the film last night, you would have seen why he, himself banned it.

He was horrified by both the media and the public's misenterpretation of the film and its contents.

/edit

the ban was lifted when he died.

Kubrick voluntarily banned the film because people started using it as an excuse for violence, there were also several versions of the book, with and without the last chapter, and with and without the Nadsat translations.

I'm sorry I seem to have walked into the Barrysworld Films Forum.

Could someone please direct me to the general forum?

They weren't using it as an excuse for violence.

The media in their infinite wisdom blamed the film for said acts of violence.

Phew!

I'm glad I'm not the only one to think it was shite.

I thought it was rather good actually. The first part of the film with the beatings and the rape... Perhaps slightly over the top, but only slightly. The violence set the scene, and the manner in which they carried it out - Nice and artistic.

The rest of the film was intriguing, however i'm not totally sure what the moral of the film is? That by "curing" him, all that was achieved was that other people would take advantage of him(being "cured")? That violence does indeed pay?

I thought it aged quite well, proberbly because of the way everyone spoke and the way him and his friends dressed.

Well I dunno but the way I looked at it was this way..

<IMHO>
(*) By "curing" him they took away his human choice. Since human choice (as far as Roman Catholic believe) is a gift from god to make us better than angels. (The was it says is "Since angels have no choice but to do good then the good they do is of less value. Therefore god gave us the choice to do both so that when we do good we rise above angels....")

(*) By seeking retribution not only do the victims make themselves as bad as him (preying on someone weaker than you) they make what was a villan at the beginning into somewhat of a hero(or at least a character to sympathise with) which makes a rather pertinent point as far as current affairs goes.

(*) I'm sure the fact that they use a cinema to "change his mindset" and give him an aversion to violence is trying to make a point about the perceived connection between violence in art/ the media and instigating violence.

<IMHO>

On a completely unrelated note, I thought Ring was over-rated.

I didn't like Clockwork Orange very much. It seemed to bland. No real plot and um ... bit pants to be honest.
