Its comes down to exculsive games and what features like internet etc etc

Xbox 360

I got a Xbox 360, put it on the 50 " Sony Bravia, and the games look the dogs bollox , at them resolutions. But the Xbox live is shite, its disgusting how much they charge for images and things, and they give nothing back for making you pay to play Mutilplayer online. Media is crap, only plays Mp3 and WMA WMV . No Web Broswer, and to say Microsoft are behind it, you would have thought they had put something like that in, even if it meant you paying for it the M$ way. :D

They even sell the Console with a 20 gig HD, but when you get into it, the OS on there take up 6 gig, and when you look at it you can see how it takes 6 gig up

And now M$ have come with a late run with this HD-DVD player, again more money if you want HD-DVD, and lets face it, they are going to use HD-DVD for gaming , just a matter of time when they change the model of the console so it has all in 1 drive.

Bottom line for Xbox 360, is that its good for games on Big screens, and the rest is shite.

PS3

PS3 Exclusives look very good, and there Media and internet look 100 times better than Xbox live and you can surf the net too, and have a better movie Experiance with Blue-Ray if you like that sort of think. And lets face it, Blue-Ray players alone cost about a £1000

Ps3 certainly looks like somthing that could stand the test of time for abit more cash.

The Wii is somthing i have to have a go on to form an opion, because they aint HD, but the games could be fun enough to justify that.

And PC will allways have room in the house. :D

your wrong, buy a HD from a shop, once you've formatted it, its rarely what it says it is ie 100gb drive will probably be 90-95gbs

also, you can look at what occupies the drive, in a sub-section... and it says that 6gbs never egsists

but really, 20gb is really generous imo

Here we go again. First of all you can stream almost any format to the 360 using a number of free transcoding utils. Not ideal but still more than possible and you can play alot of formats the PS3 can't.

HD-DVD games? No, end of story. No. It has been said time and time again by Microsoft, J. Allard and numerous other MS execs, DVD is the games format for 360 end of story, if you don't believe that fine but don't come on here to tell everyone otherwise and state it like it is anything other than your opinion.

20 gig will do for now but when MS release the Freview TV tuner which i think is 2007? they have said hd tv is 3gb for a hour? that 20 gb could go really fast. But again thats not what it was built for so if you want it to do that you should be happy paying to upgrade it.
Can you upgrade the hd on a ms disk cady? i know there is a new one now thats lets you do it 3rd party.

I think it was in the 360 offical mag that thats what it will do should let people get rid of the pvr from under the tv as well a good idea imo. would be cool if the 360 drive could write as well not sure if it can.

I have wanted a all in one consol pvr dvd player type thing since i saw this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PSX_(DVR) but it was never released in the UK. That is why i am hoping the PS3 will do everything, my dream would come true if it could be a SKY HD box too ;) 3 boxes gone replaced by one

Personal Video Recorder so yeah sky plus for freeview but like above unless it can do Sky HD it would not help me :) but if its cheap it could be a nice add on for the 360

The missing 6 or 7 gig is for the OS and what is has to do, take it or leave, and if you think im wrong go talk to M$ they will tell you this.

20 gig would be generous, but you dont ever get that.

False marketing FTW :D

10 years ago yes. now, when u can get 200-300 gig drives to a PC, 20 gig seems a little bit "meh, whatever" dont you think?

I have read that on the PS3 you can just share a network folder and get your films ect from there. If the XBox can do the same then then your local disk is just needed for game saves and demos ect. So that could be enough.

You would just have to archive tv ect if that becomes a option

Yes, via transcoding from your PC. I stream from my 500gb DivX drive all the time, works a treat even on high definintion files.

100gb drive is in the works bud, as for the 'proposed' PVR as well nothing concrete has emerged yet but standard deinition recording using the WMV format runs at about 500mb an hour and high definition at roughly 2gb an hour. 20gb won't be enough and MS know it, 60gb wouldn't really be enough for my liking either. 100gb would be the minimum they should punt for, you can buy 120gb laptop hard drives in retail for under £70 so Microsoft Microsoft could easily have them manufacturered on mass and still make a healthy profit by selling them at £60. Fingers crossed anyway.

One thing I want to say before I leave this thread just so people don't aren't left with the impression that I am a 360 fanboy. If in 18 months time Sony has the better media features I will be buying a PS3 no questions asked, I am happy with the 360's media features but they could be much better and I am hoping Microsoft realise this and already are planning changes.

Yeah i remember reading that a 1080i or p i do not remember which movie will take 6gb. Microsoft would be silly not to offer a bigger disk lets just hope they do not try to make to much money for it and force people into buying the 3rd party one. It would be smart to make the ovr part though

I am a sony fan boi i can't help it but i did have a 360 till i sold it to my cousin however i did buy sky hd rather than a wii in the end i could not get the hang of red steel i will wait for the gun adaptor and then try again.

For me the exclusive Sony games are what i like and like said above i have always wanted one box to sit by my tv to do everything :) if it had one hdmi cable i might even wall mount it

Yep or a tera station like i have down stairs :)

Thats the reason for 2 ps3 the cheap is meant for people who have a network and know how to share files ect the expensive with the bigger disk and wifi is for people who do not have a network hence the larger hard disk.

I wonder if i keep talking shit about ps3 will they see it and give me a free one :)

So what your saying is, is that it re-encodes the file format on the fly and turns it into WMV?

So still, the 360 dont play Xvid or Divx, and alot of other everday Media formats out of the box for that matter. :D

Of course, what did you think transcode meant? ;) :D

Yes it isn't ideal I know, you would think it would be Sony not wanting to support DivX because of piracy issues (them owning a film studio and all) yet they seem to be ready to support it and Microsoft are lagging. Doesn't make alot of sense to me and I bloody hope Microsoft address it in the spring update, if they don't do it by this time next year I will be looking at getting a PS3 myself as long as the price has dropped £100. All that said though, transcoding isn't ideal but it does work bloody well and personally speaking I can watch everything I have, which I couldn't do on PS3 unless they broaden the codec support somemore which hopefully is only a matter of time.

If you want to watch media off your pc via your TV a normal Xbox with XMBC or whatever it is is far superior. You can pickup cheap xbox's on ebay for £20. I used to stream xvids and divx from my pc to my TV via my 360, i got bored of one of my PC's being tied up and bought a normal xbox, i would never go back.

It stuggles with files encoded at 720p or higher though, the old celeron 733 has a fit when you start asking it to decode high bitrates. Would kill for a 360 version of XBMC though, had 3 very happy years with it installed on my Xbox.

Just found this nice article as well, a solid comparison on current HD-DVD v Blu-Ray titles using 360 and PS3. A worthwhile read for anyone looking at getting into the HD video market.

http://www.gamescentral.com/blogs/t...26/ps3-blu-ray-vs-xbox-360-hd-dvd-vs-dvd.aspx

I think that HD DVD will become VCR unfortunatly leaving Blu Ray to be betamax :(

Unless the blu ray makes a bigger bussiness impact i think it will too expensive for home users but the ps3 could change that. But if these 200gb disks ever appear as long as they write at a decent speed they could become viable corprate backup devices. But like i said i think HD DVD will win the war.

When i was reading on the web a few days ago, there seemed to be RUMOURS of Microsoft supporting divx and xvid natively on the xbox360 within two months.

i hope they turn out to be facts rather than rumours, but "TVersity" works very well for streaming yer stuff to xbox360 in the meantime, transcoding when needed, and dont need a "windows media center" pc for it to work.

before i bought the xbox, i was using a good quality SVideo lead from my TV out to watch films or whatever on the tele, and after watching something last night using transcoding+xbox360 i was surprised to find that the picture quality was actually higher than using my TV out.
