I think the major difference here is the dev team, Blizzard have an outstanding reputation for quality and attention to detail. I'd love to see more companies like them.

They give the impression that they actually care about the game and the people playing it. Not like some who don't really give a fuck and just want endless amounts of cash.

Will there be a monthly fee for Guild Wars?

No, there will not be a monthly subscription fee of any kind, anywhere.

Not sure how peeople can say its going to be a huge let-down, they let you read the beta boards, as they have no NDA, just by reading you can see its a great game.

Unlike some other MMORPG, who has NDA that were ment to be the end of all mmorpg's, not saying any names.

First thing i don´t like about WoW is all that people saying that it will be great, how can you know it?

Graphics....

And about PvP, it´s a secondary thing for them , so don´t think we are going to find a balanced and complete pvp there....

BLizzard have along line of succesful titles under their belt and spend abslutely ages (and ages and ages....) perfecting them before release.
SO far blizzard imo havent disapointed from daiblo..starcraft and more rescently WC3 we have been addicted to them.
I think people are expecting a "better" version of daoc rather than WOW as a game in its own right.
90% of u will play it anyway out of curiosity, i for one will be one of them.
Saying that i loved the final fantasy series so this type of game prolly will suite me :)
just my 2 cents

Having no NDA on the beta helps. I know it only gives us the impressions of a few thousand folks but their are genuine posts out there. This is a good thing and should be encouraged. (Lineage2's open beta should also be applauded.)

So you belive everything you read then? ;)
And yes I do belive that many people will be letdown if they don't evolve the PvP tbh.

And yes, I think we're going to see with WOW exactly what we saw with SW:G. Namely, tons of people who post a lot on boards going OMGOMG!!!!THIS GAME R TEH R0XX0R! I WILL /CANCEL DAOC AND NEVER COME BACK!!!!

...and three weeks later they're back with their pixellated tails between their legs going "well actually it kind of sucked"...

This happened on the US boards. Folks saying they were leaving and then others saying you'll be back, numbers aren't down and so on.

5 months on and there is now no dispute that US DAoC peak numbers are well down (as in thousands). VN boards main boards have all but dies as well and that's with a 7 day fee trial running. Next big date will be the end of April when Lineage2 and CoH are released. Could get ugly when WoW is released.

In Europe GoA are not currently publishing the European peak numbers graphs at the moment - spot checks suggest that current are down 'in th eorder of 10%' on last year though. So no biggy at the moment but the US decline in numbers seems to have started slowly with most people giving ToA a chance. A better product (patch 1.67) should have helped in Europe of course.

I am sure that most people can read the information available and form an opinion. The key thing is people's opinions and experiences (both good and bad) are available to read.

As to whether people will be let down or not I don't agree. The trick is to manage expectations. Blizzard, I am sure, will say what passes for PvP (and we should be able to read what testers think of it - as they are doing in Lineage2 at the moment. Some people may not like what is offered and decide not to buy WoW. Does this mean that they have been let down ... I would suggest not. At least not when compared to launch of ToA in the US.

Compare this to the ToA release in the US. An expansion that will not impact RvR. No reviews available because of a) NDAs and b) Mythic not supplying game magazine copies until the 'day before launch' etc. Well it sold very well in the first week and probably did impact FFXI in the short term so thumbs up to Mythic marketing for overruling the QA department (Mythic must have one, toothless maybe but it must exist).

At least Europe had a better idea as to what ToA was all about. Mythic's own press releases along with 146,000+ posts on VN between US and Europe release saw to that.

I'm not saying that Blizzard is gonna let peeps down by releasing a flawed pruduct. Not even I am that ignorant/stoopid.
I think you're hitting the head right on about the expectations. I think that's one of the core "issues" in this discussion. Sum people have GIANT expectations, just because it's a Blizzard title. Those are the peeps I believe will feel "let down" when it's not what they have imagened, when they really have been let down by their own expectations.
And I know peeps who know diddley sqwat about mmorpgs who's gonna buy WoW just because it's Blizzard. :eek7:

Ps. How many times did I type expectations in this post? :D Ds.

It doesn't look cartoony, it looks like the Warcraft games. And guess what? It is Warcraft, making the "looks cartoony" statements a bit dull and pointless.

If I hadn't played DAoC, I bet I'd love WoW... but Frontiers > WoW and another PvE level grind anyday.

Well excuse me for having an opinion. It's mine and you don't have to share it. You're entitled to your own. :p

WoW = Cartoony, WoW = Warcraft, ergo Warcraft is cartoony.

Could still be a great game though, cause as someone else said: Gameplay > Graphics.

btw: when do we get gore? I WANT GORE.
