ESPN say

Man of the Match: Emile Heskey - With all eyes on Wayne Rooney, Heskey took centre stage. A great lay-off for the opener, his physical strength caused the USA defence problems all night long and, although he should have scored when through one-on-one, his presence was a constant threat before he was subbed.

Its due to the massive overexpectation from the majority of England fans. There is no understanding that the USA are a good team (check out their result when they played Spain last, hello Marc) or that not losing your first game is of prime importance.

Hopefully Capello will have a better idea of his team now and how he wants them to play. Although starting with a sick Milner, putting SWP on the left and playing Carragher at centre back are less than impressive choices thus far.

Was kinda funny when Clive Tyldesley called Nemanja Vidic a "Manchester United striker".

What a twat.

aye, he looks good :) You always get to see new talents at the world cup.

We've got the youngest player in this WC, Christian Eriksen. Morten Olsen has already said that he might start against Netherlands. I can't wait \o/

YouTube - Christian Eriksen - Great talent

He's regarded as the new Laudrup by many people over here.

Germany looking very solid in the opening half, hadn't heard much about Ozil before but he's having a cracker.

Any idea if theres been much interest in him by bigger teams?

well he played for werder bremen last season but he is on loan there from bayern who if he plays well are probably not going to want to sell him

ozil and lahm were incredible. strong german team, impressive start but i thought their defence looked very shaky at corners so it will be interesting to see how they do against ghana who looked much more of a threat going forward than the aussies.

poor cahil, he got FUCKED by that referee. yellow at worst.

Yeah that was a mental decision from the referee.

germany in getting lucky decisions in world cups shocker?

oh wait, that happens every world cup.

although tbh, i dont think cahill still being on the pitch would have changed the result in any way.

Very strong performance by the german team. I´m really surprised, because it´s a young team and the preparation matches were not that convincing. Lahm, Özil and Podolski are the highlights of this match.

However, I`m not sure about the real value of this 4-0. Australia seemed WAY too weak to put up any resistance (despite their oh so praised defence). It looked like the entire australian defence was always one or two steps too slow.

About the red card... comon. The referee is known for his card-frenzy tendencies. The yellow card for Cacaus "dive" (which was nothing more than an attempt to avoid a tackle/injury) was just as ridiculous.

Lahm is and always was a bloody good player, Podolski is a handful when he is in the mood so he didn't suprise me at all. Ozil was a revelation though, well done young fella. :)

Ozil was superb, heard a lot about him but never seen him (outside of football manager), was very good to watch.

Klose always bangs them in against crap teams, always a good outside bet for the golden boot. Muller looked decent after some less than impressive champions league appearances. German sides are always very solid at the back, and even with no real decent defenders this was still the case.

Australia are proper gash though.

Can't wait for the England / Germany final.

What a suprise, Ledley King's world cup looks to be over. Capello made a massive mistake taking that gamble, the bloke just isn't capable of 3 games in 10 days at the highest intensity.

Germany can go all the way this year. Just put Bastian Schweinsteiger as attacking midfielder and quit the 2 DMF! Then every game will end like a tennis match.. 6-2, 6-1 and 6-0

Bendtner is starting in today, I am 100% sure! It's all BS from Morten Olsen! If he wasn't in the starting 11 he wouldn't be on the traning ground every day jogging about listening to music. As soon as the press leaves King Bendtner enters the pitch and trains with the team

Because Bendtner starts in, I say 2-1 to Denmark

Yep, what a surprise. He lasted half a match, and now we're a defender down.

and on the evidence of the last match, he'll start with Carragher instead, who's got a wider turning circle than most lorries.
