Fucking hell Lampard

Why isn't it Rooney taking the penalty anyway? He's been by far the best for England today

Stat wise i think rooney is no better at penaltys than lampard, and rooney best player? he will be sent off at this rate. Most of the team having another bad showing,

He's the only one showing some heart and soul.. The rest just seem like they couldn't be bothered at all

And did you just see his shot? Yeah I think Rooney should have taken the penalty over Lampard

No cokenose, Lampard is our penalty taker. he has an excellent record of taking them. Best person to take our penalties bar none.

Joe Cole has really showed why he should be going over Walcott, and so has Lennon IMO.

Walcott has been pants, I'd suggest he's only in the 30 because of the Croatia game and the fact he plays for Arsenal. Poor performance, can't see that team getting very far in the World Cup.

And some strange choices by the manager in selections for the game today. What does he learn by playing Ashley Cole at left back? Surely Warnock should have been given a run out after Baines was so poor in the last game?

Joe cole and SWP looked really good imo. I hope he takes both of them. Bent isn't good enough, I'd rather Heskey went.

Bent had no service at all, what he did I thought he did well, Heskey can not score goals and saying he brings the best out of Rooney is nonesense. If you want a target man stick Crouch up there, Heskey should be at home for the next month and Bent should take his place, in my humble and slightly biased oppinion.

heskey and walcott have both been useless for ages but you know they'll both be there ahead of better players

you can't judge Bent as he had no service, Heskey and Walcott should both be left behind.

walcott has been disappointing in the last 2 friendlies. Looks like the pressure has got to him.

I do not know many Arsenal fans who though he would be a first team choice. But i do still think he should go as a super sub had had some brilliant 20 minute sub appearances. And seeing and he can play both wings and striker i though he was worth a pick as a impact sub / utility player.

In what situation would England ever bring Bent on as a sub? Lets be honest he is never going to start a world cup game. At least Heskey brings a physical presence that we might need in certain situations. Crouch is tall but he isn't as strong. Not only that but England have always done well when Heskey has played, particularly against the lesser sides (which we will be facing in the WC).

Bent thrives on the ball over the top and you can't play international football like that, just ask Graham Taylor.

Heskey was great in qualification and has earned the right to play in that team. He gets the best out of Rooney and the attacking midfielders.

Crouch has a role to play, generally it will involve cleaning high windows without a ladder. Well that is a bit cruel, he does score goals, and has shown he can thrive in a long-ball team but I don't think he has Heskey's ability to bring other players into play. YMMV.

walcott is a joke, just another one of those "he's fast, he must be good" players that never should have progressed past being picked first on the playground.

He isn't very good when the ball is played to his feet but is deadly when played into space, especially late in the game. I'd take him and use him as a sub with 20/30 mins to go if we need a goal.

I think Joe Cole should definitely be in the first XI. England do not produce many footballers that have great technical ability unlike Spain, Brazil and many other nations. Gerrard and Rooney are exceptions, as is Joe Cole. England need these players if they hope to reach the latter stages of the World Cup.

Joe Cole is frustrating though. At times hes unplayable and does indeed have the technical ability 99.99999999% of english players lack. Other times hes invisible. I suppose this is why hes a good player but not a great player

Indeed, although we were very very lucky at times - they missed a virtual open goal, should've had a penalty and we then cleared the ball off a defender and back off the post - Hopefully like the Spanish side we can build on this
