WildStar is an upcoming MMORPG by Carbine Studios, published by NCSoft.

http://wildstar-online.com/uk/

Level based, 2 factions, 4 races per faction, 6 classes, 4 paths.
50 levels, standard XP based progression.
2 factions, Exiles and Dominion.
Known classes: Warrior, Spellslinger, Stalker, Esper. 2 unknown.
Paths give unique gameplay options, based on a system similar to the Bartle classifications: Soldier, Explorer, Scientist, Settler.
Gameplay has heavy focus on constant movement through telegraphs (aoe spots on the ground)
Graphics is very similar to WoW, cartoony style, obvious much higher polygon count, but combat is very different.
Very whacky humor.

I think if you enjoy WoW/EQ2/SWTOR or similar games, this can be quite fun. I especially liked the housing bit, something I really enjoyed in DAoC.

2 months for a game is quite good, compared to call of 4 hours wankfest ;)

Depends how they pull end game dungeons/raids/pvp off I guess Raven, thats what will decide whether the game stays alive or not. If the raids/dungeons are like WoW and keep you busy for a fair old bit I can see it being quite successful.. maybe not on a WoW sub base scale but in its own right it'll prob be a good runner up.

No, how fast you GET there is the biggest conundrum... If it's going to fast then it's gonna turn out bad for them because there's never going to be enough end game content at launch and it takes time to make new ones. I want to see an MMO with an actual leveling curve. Not something you can powergame through in a couple of days or a week or two.

Ah thanks for posting the new updates. Carbine Studios lifted the press embargo on this and alot of new info has surfaced.

Here's a summary: http://www.reddit.com/r/WildStar/comments/1euhyn/highlights_of_the_522_wildstar_info_release/

Regarding endgame, this is where Carbine Studios has most of its focus. They don't call it "the endgame", but "elder game". It means the same thing of course, but they have a marketable name for this type of game feature shows that they invest heavy in it.

They want hard raids (20/40 man) and 5-man dungeons. There are at least 3 types of PVP (arena, battlegrounds, warplots). Achievements. Crafting leveling system. Housing. And alot of the meta games that players invent themselves.

Their own current estimate is around 200 hours of solo content. Add group content and other activities (achievements, crafting, pvp, ...) on top of that

They have house building and seemingly free customization AND a path to build even more crap. I couldn't care less about endgame :p

Well some care about endgame, so it was a reply to them.

The housing system looks excellent. The outside (plug things into preset sockets) is much less customisable than the inside (freeform rotate, move, scale any object).

Been watching this. Marketing is certainly very good. I remember WAR having good nerd marketing too pre release.

This whole learning from experience thing is rather useful I find. However, still watching :)

Out of interest what would you class as a reasonable amount of time to level from start to max?

DAOC pre SI took a damned long time. Bring a chill to my spine just thinking of the Trees in Cornwall from 48-50 on my Pally. Personally I would like a system where it takes a reasonable amount of time to get your first char through to max level but any alts should be quicker. Reasonable for me would be 3-4 weeks @ 3-4 hours a day. I really do not have the time for a Korean style year long leveling type thing. Plus any such game would not get the sub base they need to be a big success. We live in a busy world where people want quick results.

Just arsing about in GW2 this past week with my 12 yr old son. Couple of hours every few days for a week and already level 25. Slow paced but he is having fun exploring the maps etc. I think GW2 has a very reasonable rate of progress. If you want to power level through you can. If you want to take your time and look at the content you can do that to. I think they got just right in GW2.

Impossible to answer to be honest.

Long enough so the devs don't fall behind? Stupid and vague answer, i know.. :)

And about GW2... well, It's a great game but sooooooo many of the events in there are still broken...

Only personally seen 1 event that was broken long term (Cannon Vista thing). Other do get stuck or fail from time to time but plenty more to do.

Well the only problem with that skillshot system comes from moba; if you mess up, you'll get so much rage you'll want to quit the game.

I'd prefer a balance of skill vs choice of playstyle, where you can use classic MMO methods, but to do legendary stuff you need to skillshot it.
