I didn't say they weren't. I have no doubt that if I cut off my past shoulder length hair I would have an easier time getting a job.

Oh christ... :m00:

And for tris: It shouldnt be used as an excuse. But then, i never said that ?

This is exactly why i didn't answer you in any constructive way.

You think everything is about you.

"i never said that", when it's a point that tris- makes.

You're wrong, people don't give a f*ck about what you look like, individuals might.

Probably individuals like you.

I am not talking about what someone in the gym looks like, I am talking about in the grand scale of the world looks actually do have a big effect on peoples lives.

Surely as someone who has lost a lot of weight you did so because you did not like how you looked? You were restricted to things that you could do?

yes i personally did not like the way i looked, i still dont. i never will. but what other people think i look like has no bearing on me.

by restricted yes probably. having a circumfrance of 46" and only being able to buy xxxl shirts did hinder what i could do. aswel as being extremely unhealthy and unfit of course.

Nice, just can't be polite eh?

Read what i wrote, understand it, then call me that.

You saying "i never said that" was invalid, pointless even, as tris- never claimed you saying so. Get it?

And no we don't agree, people and individuals are a different matter. People usually means all, a lot, general public, and the general public doesn't give a f*ck about your looks.

And yes calaen, if i ever wanted to get married and the woman had a hump, so what? I don't let looks come in the way of thouhts, who people are and of possible love.

Sorry I just think that's entirely untrue..

I've very rarely been in a pub with a bunch of mates that haven't commented on the "looks" of women that wandered past to some extent. Sure it might not be the only thing we notice, but it's certainly not something that is overlooked. Go look at the pictures of "fat people" that have been posted in the past on this very forum and the flood of comments about how it doesn't matter, it's their personality that's important... Oh no wait, the comments probably were much more along the lines of "who ate all the pies" wern't they?
People don't give a fook about your looks when they know you. When they don't it's pretty much all they have to go on.
Lets not forget that recently a bunch of kids killed someone simply based on how they looked!

People saying, who cares what other people think of you are probably normal enough that they don't really get noticed by other people. Go into a pub and you'll see 95% of the people there simply blend in with the others. If your in that 95%, then I really don't think you have a clue what your talking about.

First have to comment on the internet forum: Anonymity brings more rude behaviour. And if that fat person is the topic, then ofcourse it's noticed. Taking a piss out of someone o these forums, not comparable.

About commenting on womens looks, well, you're out there to notice them arn't you? You're out to get laid, or some such, bar sitting is just that, observing, intentionally looking. again, different from people caring how you look. And do you care if a fat woman is in a bar? No, you might make a snappy comment and that's it, you forget her existance.

Yes, kid got killed for looking different. Again, idiots like that are luckily not the general public.

About being in the 95%(which is bullcrap in itself), no i'm not in it. Nor am i trying to be in or out of it. People who think someone is "out of the general" or "in that group of people", are excactly the problem people...like you.

You'll find that internet forums bring more direct rude behaviour. Laughing at someone on an internet forum and laughing at someone in real life who you think can't see you really arn't that far apart. In the UK as long as there's more than 2 of them they will actually be quite happy to say it to your face..

again, different from people caring how you look. And do you care if a fat woman is in a bar? No, you might make a snappy comment and that's it, you forget her existance.

That's sort of the point isn't it? Yeah the people might not really care how you look but when you go through life constantly hearing snappy comments then it can effect you. For you it's a snappy comment then back to your pint. For the other person it's listning to a snappy comment, then on to the next table to hear their snappy comment. The fact the people behind you have forgotten about you really isn't that much comfort.

If you don't think the 95% group exists then i'm guessing you are actually in it. Try going out one night wearing your normal gear and see how many people actually notice you. Go out the next night naked with I am Jesus painted across your body. See if you get treated exactly the same by everyone.. After all no-one except one or two people is actually paying any attention to you, or cares what you look like right?

For you. Not for everyone. Most people are careful of what they say, and on an internet forum, they don't need to worry about it.

There has to have been a moment where you didn't say something you thought, but why? What was the reason?

That's sort of the point isn't it? Yeah the people might not really care how you look but when you go through life constantly hearing snappy comments then it can effect you. No, its a whole nother ballpark. That's being angry(etc) at people for making snappy comments, it doesn't mean that the people care how you look.

I don't believe it's 95%, all that is meant, but nice of you to avoid the whole point in that.

I don't get treated the same by EVERYONE any given day, me being a delusional jesus wouldn't change that fact. Only thing that would change, would be that i then crave for attention, and as such, people would notice me. They still wouldn't care that i ws said jesus though, as much as they don't care about a fat person(unless they are morons like the gothkiller).

Actually i'm probably one of the people least likely to do it. I see and hear it a great deal tho.

Ok, let me put it another way.
People might not actually care about what you look like. Some people care about what others think about them tho. Now you can argue they are right or wrong to do that, but it's just the way it is.
If your one of the people that actually care what others think of you, then does it not make sense to avoid situations where you'll be subjected to listening to endless streams of abuse from people who think you can't see or hear them?

You might be lucky enough to not give a crap what people think of you. Some people arn't that lucky.

There you go.

Different matter.

That we can discuss if you like, but it has nothing to do if general people give a crap about you. It has everything to do with you caring what others think. And that doesn't mean that others think, it just means you think they do.

Moggit: I think, personal opinion, you should work on that as much as your weight. Sure, other reasons for losing weight, but don't do it because people say stuff. So learn to ignore those comments, it's a healthier solution too.

so its an excuse not to do things....

Sure if you want to discuss semantics..

I'm not sure a desire not to be constantly ridiculed and lazy can be classified as the same thing tho!

I'm quite sure I can find a large number of people who would be happy to walk 10 miles, but not to walk 10 miles naked while people take pictures to post on the internet and make fun of.

being fat and being naked is not the same thing at all.
fat is normal to see, naked isnt. you dont look twice at a fat person, you dont give a crap about them, just like a skinny person or an average person (which these days average IS fat).
if you seen a naked person, that isnt normal and is bound to attract attention.

even super obese massive fattys are normal these days. no one looks twice at them. just because someone called you a name once, it doesnt mean everyone is doing it. why do you care what random people think about you? its an excuse not to do something no matter which way you put it.

in my experience people who THINK others give a shit about them, are the type of people who think everyone must like them. news flash: people dont have to like you, the way you look or who you are. you are not special. youre just another person.

i'd just like to point ut that i think the use of the word "care" in the context of "people do/dont care what you look like" is a bit out of place.

I look at other people when I'm out i see them, i might think "bugger me he's got a big nose" or "blimey how skinny are her legs" but then they are forgotten, i do not care what they look like, i don't go home at night and think abut that person and think because they are fat/skinny/short/tall/have a huge nose/3 eyes/look like benny hill that they must be either good or bad people, i see them i occasionally make a mental comment which (i add) is not concious, it just pops up in there, and then i don't think about them any more.

i might see you and think "christ she's a big gal" or "jeeeesus look at the state of his hair!" but as soon as the thought is thought i am no longer thinking about you.

this is just me ofc, others might operate on a different level but i suspect we are all the same in this respect.

now then if i see food or animals this is a whole different scenario, i still vividly remember the chocolate coated jam and cream filled donut i saw (and then ate) in australia about 4 years ago and i still remember a little black poodle called whiskey who used to come and hop on my knee when i saw him... i dont remember the people who worked at the donut shop or whiskeys owner Oo
