Anyone remember hula hoops?

At the moment everyone's talking about them and it's a good point that it's not supposed to be hardcore excerise and may be a stepping stone for some to make longterm 'a lifestyle adjustment', but can't help thinking alot of attics will be cluttered up with these things in a years time.

As an extension to Ez' comment, and as a guy who spends alot of time at the gym. I see them all, big jelly ladies (as you so affectionately call them ;)), stick women and muscular chicks.

When i see one of those big girls just rocking up and down on some random machine. And i do mean when, as they blend in alot more than your think. It's respect more than anything i feel, no matter how they look.
Respect for the fact that they are doing something about it. They are not at home eating 4 pies alone. Feeling sorry for themselfs, and moaning about how hard it is to lose the weight. They are in the gym, sweating it off.
No you might not be able to do more than 10 mins of cardio. But everyone starts somewhere, EVERYONE. Fat, skinny, tall, short. As long as you have a goal, and the will to work towards that goal. People will respect you for it.

So don't let self esteem issues keep you out of the gym. You will feel alittle self concious the first 2 weeks or so. Feel like everyone is in better shape and have more experience than you. But before long you will feel right at home :)

That's a whole load of crap. You're in the ladies squatting area with me for the first hour, then we goto the sauna's and then back to the womens showers....

Any way, moggi, After a few weeks your confidence will grow, evan doing Wii Fit, so one day you might make it in the gym :D Gl :)

i must have just had bad luck with gyms then, the one that i did join when i went there was a group of men that would singger an laugh at me. it didnt help that the walls were all mirrored and i could see them pointing at me and doing fat impressions.

These were grown men not kids so it hurt a lot

Grown men. Hmh. Most of "grown men" are just that, grown, yet they stay mentally as a child.

You shouldn't, even if you do, take notice of such stupid persons. All that matters is how you feel about yourself and if, Wii brings you more cofidence, then good for Wii.

Real men grow mentally, and in their hearts, not by size.

Sucks :( Too bad that you had that experience. But i reckon that is more the exception than the rule.

Unfortunately, in life, you will run into retards who hasn't evolved emotionally since they were 13. They can workout all they want. And become socially crippled minihulks, but they will still just be nothing more than overgrown 13 year olds on the inside.

Don't let people like that run your life. Even if it's just in the fact that you don't feel comfortable with gyms. Just know that the majority by far will respect you.

ouch, maybe you should have done a small penis & no brains impression to them.

i think the fact that they were grown men shows how totally pathetic they are, kids do stuff like that because kids are (on the whole) selfish and have no empathy, so when they do stuff like that its meaningless.

anyhoo dont let the bastards grind you down! you do this stuff for you not anyone else and tbh your 14 stone now, and that's ... *calculates* well thats the olsen twins, all you have to do now is loose ooh i'd say part of mary-kates leg and some of ashleys arm and your done!

I didnt say it was, i actually said a better diet would do more to lose fat than wii fit ;)
You lose fat when you do exercise because you are burning more than you are taking in, so your body burns fat to get the energy

Tbh this thread needs some vlad rapeage, as he can get all technical on you

I wanted to join a gym but the whole thought of me (who in my mind is still a big wiggling jelly person) trying to excercise in front of others was just too much. I have tried several times to go to gyms even to the point of joining one and going to one or two sessions.

sorry to be blunt but i think thats a horse shit excuse to be lazy.

i used to have a 46" waist and weigh nearly 20st, i didnt exercise cos i made excuses not to just like youre doing.
youre willing to walk in the street arnt you? how is that different to sitting on a bike in a gym and pedalling? the only difference is the pedalling in the gym will be a lot more beneficial. and i hate to break it to you, but no one really gives a damn what you look like. people goto the gym to exercise, not stare at people and rate them out of 10 on a piece of paper.

stop making excuses and get your ass in gear! every time you say something is stopping you, youre just making an excuse not to do it. if you really wanted to do it, you would. and you wouldnt care about anything else.

chronic is right. its all about thermodynamics in the end. put too much energy into a system, and the energy is stored. put less energy into a system and the energy is used up. in this case the system is your body and the energy is all those big macs and pizzas you shove down your kneck. eat less of them and do more, you will lose weight.

If it was the fact im lazy why have i used the Wii fit for at least 40 mins every day since i got it.

You dont know me, you dont know what I look like and you dont know what I have been threw,

No i didnt like going out when i was at my biggest, I would find every excuse to not have to go out. I have a lot more self confidance then i use to have now, but thats after being so depressed about my weight that I had to have the surgery to help me lose the weight and NO its not all about what i ate I have a medical problem that caused me to put weight on, I now have to spend the rest of my life on hormone tables and other pills to just try and make sure I keep the weight off.

saying "i wont do this exercise because people MIGHT look at me" is lazy in my opinion.
if you wanted to do you would do it regardless of what anyone thought.

and as i said in a previous post I have been to a gym in the past and had a bad experiance, you might be able to deal with that but i couldent. simple as but there is no need to be calling me Lazy for it. I could understand if i was saying ohh yeah i think about going to a gym but i cant be arsed yeah then I would be lazy, but i have tried. I do have low self confidance and thats something Im working on. The more weight i lose the better i feel and i do hope at some point i will feel good enough about myself that I can walk into a gym or anywhere and not worry about what people think about me.

Also you should know women always worry more about how they look then men do

I have to agree with tris- here, a bit.

People wouldn't care how others see them, if they knew how f*ck all they really care.

Or some such words...

And no, women don't think more of their looks then men. People think more of their looks then other people. Nothing to do with gender.

And finally, it's not lazy that you're not going to the gym, but if you wanted and don't because someone might laugh or has laughed, it's being a quitter and giving up.

Just SEEMS like you're making up excuses, and just the kind of people i don't like, using the Wii Fit as an excue among others.

- I'm a woman, i feel less about myself.
- I have wii fit, i don't NEED to go to the gym
- People point and laugh at me.

See it?

do you not walk down the street?
if so, why is that different to sitting on a bike in a gym, or walking on a treadmill in the gym?

the only difference really is the people in the gym are all there for the same reason, so if anything you should be more at peace.

I think the wii fit is an excellent idea. It might not be the ultimate workout for 20 year old men but for kids and seniors its great.

And btw, saying that this society doesnt care what you look like is just wrong. There are so many superficial people out there. Looks are everything these days. Sadly.

And i think that the fear of going to the gym when you're in bad shape is a very common one. I remember how nervous i was when i first went to the gym.

using that as an excuse is being lazy without admitting it.

Moggit if you're losing weight on Wii Fit then that's a good thing. Once you feel more confident in yourself, you could maybe try the gym again?

Confidence can be a nightmare, but if Wii Fit has helped you lose some weight, it's going to make you more confident as well.

I think music would be a good thing, it will help blot out any work worries or anything playing on your mind, also it makes you feel good. If some stupid arsehole does make a comment, it wont be heard under your David Hasselhoff mix tape....oh come on, we all have them!

Good luck with it, I respect you for making this thread :)
