I got the wii Fit on saturday and I have to say for the fat games its brill. lots of mini games that are fun but give a good work out.

Im fat i know i am and i always have been so the thought of going to a gym for me has always been a bit of a no no ( my own embassament factor) so this is a really good way to get fit in your own home.

Has anyone else on here got it yet and what do you think to it?

take it with a pinch of salt, its no more better for you than a dance mat really :p
Definitely not a substitute for real exercises as its essentially just light cardio :p

Can't personally see how the balance board would deliver any real exercise... unless you use it to do handstand pushups :p
As for dance mats. I reckon i long session of DDR on top level might get the ticker pumping.

It gives a feel of a work out, yet gives none.

Generally, next thing to exercise since the last great moneygrabber, "The Stick!!"(you know what i mean). Now that was a stupid exercise equipment to buy.

The WiiFit could be compared to putting on some light techno, going to the middle of the room, flailing your arms like an r-type-tard for 15 minutes and calling that a work out.

Though "fun" if you want to show your drunk-over-drinky friends the formentioned flailing.

In the muscle workout section there are pushups, crunches and things like that. Its not all cute little games.
Im not saying that its the best work out in the world but for people like me who are overweight and find doing any form of excercise in public embarassing then its really good and for me personaly its working.

i think the wii fit is quite expensive isnt it?
when i wanted to shift me weight i brought a *puts on QVC voice* Lateral Thigh Trainer! flippin heck it was brilliant, really excellant work out and i brought some wrist weights too so that i could do me arms at the same time, any hoo that was about £50, then after a few months of using it every day the chain broke (lol

so i went to argos and brought a reebok mini stepper, whic was smaller and lighter and exercised different muscles to the LTT, it operates on a belt system so isnt a noisy as the LTT and was about £40 again after about 6 months that one broke so i took it back and got another one in exchange, but then we (I say we... B2) brought a York cross trainer for like £300 and something and bloody hell! excellant work out, if you just want to go for a quick 10 min sprint you can it has all the different programmes they have at the gym (cardio, muscular, fat burn etc etc) the only thing is its a bit big so you need some space to keep it in

but its a life saver for people like us who dont want t go to the gym, i usedto go but found it too expensive and hard to get motivated to go, now all i gotta do is go to the spare room. and tbh £300 is like a years gym membership in most places, our x trainer is quite expensive because we needed the extra durable one as b2 was like 22 stone so we needed the mother ship but there are smaller ones that are just as good and cheaper.

Basically its just whatever works for you, that girl from corination chicken street (fizz i think she played) she lost loads of weight by using a wii, its just getting moving and getting something you enjoy enough to be motivated to use.

its alright for blokes to say "aaah its not a real work out!" but some gals dont want to look like a twig, they just want to get a bit more flexibility and lose a few pounds. Glad it works for you Moggi, have a look at getting some wrist/ankle weights for when your moving your arms about theyre realy good (like small sand bags you strap on can use on both arms and legs)...and cheap!

A lot of people lack the motivation to complete a light cardio, due to them being uncomfortable to exercise in public.

If doing push ups is not doing a workout I dont know what is :p

Just read Ez's post, it is what gets you going, if people find that the Wii gets them up and moving about who is anyone to judge?

The thing i'm saying isn't "it's not REAL workout!" liek some burly burlisson from burlyville.

I'm saying, that rather then speending that much cash on it, you can also flail your arms in the air like an r-tart and get the same result :D

well you could... but its psycological as well, i mean just standing there flapping your arms would have the same effect but the wii fit has fun things to look at and activities to do on a structured level, i find it much easier to work out if i have music playing or something motivational on tv.

tis the same thing.

You don't have to look like a twig...
It's just not save for someone to think they are getting exercise if they aren't. (I don't have a Wii, so i don't know 100%. It just looks very much like pseudo exersise. I could be wrong.)

On a side note, crosstrainers are brilliant Ez. I prefer crosstrainers to treadmills, when it's too cold to run outside.
Spares the knees, and if you want, it can work just as well as running for a lot of things.

Fun part i get, "it's fun, it's fun and helps me flail my limbs.", i get THAT. fun flappy thing.

But there are people claiming this is a valid exercise tool or some such.

lol anyone here ever watch the home shopping networks?

man they have some wierd gadgets there that are supposed to make you get a good work out, theres one thats like a vibrating ironing board, another one thats a stick and you just kind of wave it about Oo

i invented a work out machine too, its an arm chair with a drawing pin in the seat that come up periodically when your not expecting it so you get a good CV exercise from jumping up and down every so often!

No my point was its being used as and touted as a replacement for real exercise, not an addition to for your cardio work
Which is plain wrong

Overweight or not, it is not a replacement for real weights, or real cardio
You would see far greater benefits from fixing your diet than you ever will from wii fit in terms of losing fat

Regarding pushups, i doubt wiifit promotes good form over quantity :p But i guess thats down to the person to make sure they do them right

I dont really see the problem with it being advertised as "exercise" because its can easily be a stepping stone from doing no exercise to doing regular unassisted exercise.

Of course they'll portray it as a home solution just to get the sales, but if it gets the heart beating a little, it might give some confidence to those who have the want to exercise, but dont quite make the step.

How many people do you know go from no exercise to hardcore in one step? Its usually a progression, why cant the Wii fit be the first step on the road?

Again,no problem with thsoe sorts, but people who are fat and refuse to change diet and go out for a jog or do whatever to lose weight(nothing wrong in being fat mind you) and THEN say "but i use wii fit! I do stuff!" is a bit...meh. you know. Refer back to my flailing of arms.

Why cant it be? if you structured the different routines, it is no worse than an exercise DvD, walking for 30 minutes is classed as an exercise.

YEAH I get what you are saying.

at Chronic, I dont think they are advertising it as a replacement for weight lifting or anything like that at all. In their adverts its aimed again at families, exercise does not have to have weights involved to be successful.

I don't think many people are seriously going to consider it as a replacement for other forms of exercise, but it might be a step in the right direction. I'm sure it's better than just sitting down pressing a few buttons, it'll get people moving.

After having a quick look through a few sites, it might be worthwhile for some people. The Wii board can weigh you and give your BMI, as well as tracking your progress over time. Maybe someone who uses this would notice if their weight creeps up and down and might change other parts of their lifestyle, like an improved diet or move onto some real exercise to continue losing bodyfat.

The whole reason i got the Wii fit is in jan 2007 I had a gastric bypass op. I have always had weight problems. I cant eat much because my stomach is now sooooo small so i am losing weight but to keep my weight coming off i needed to start doing some exercises. I wanted to join a gym but the whole thought of me (who in my mind is still a big wiggling jelly person) trying to excercise in front of others was just too much. I have tried several times to go to gyms even to the point of joining one and going to one or two sessions.

Yes its not a proper work out as lots have said but at the end of the day and im sorry but if standing there and just flapping your arms about works for you then cool but the fact that the wii fit has a little bit of structure helps me. i know when i log on what i what excerises i like and when i unlock a new one i want to try it out.

I think the wii fit is the perfect way to get some one into exercise slowly and hay maybe one day when i dont get all red and out of breath after 10 mins ill actually join a gym but untill that point the Wii Fit is enought for me :p

Like you said, its a good way to get going
I wasn't meaning to offend, just pointing out it was by no means a replacement :)

Good luck :d

p.s. how the hell do you play that stupid hoola hoop game, i am pathetic at it :/

Cor Mog thats a big op you had there, i hope your adjusting to it alright missus.

I just really want to say do not and i mean this do not worry about other peoples perceptions of you, don't let that prevent you from doing what you want. When i was fat i got scared about going to the gym and swimming especially but i soon realised that everyone there was there to work out and tbh they were all more concerned with how they looked to look at anyone else.

I did an experiment where me and b2 drove round playing loud music while wearing bunny ears and no one, no one looked at us! they were probably thinking everyone was looking at them.

also something that i do that really helps the old morale is i made a chart for each month that looks like this

April
Weight:
Arms:
chest:
waist:
hips:
thighs:

and i measure and weigh myself at the beginning of each month, i cant actually see any difference between me now and me last year but the chart shows me how many CMs i've lost from my body, if i do a lot of weights then my body weight might stay the same or even go up so its really important to measure your actual size. Likewise with my BMI because i do weights it has me as over weight because muscle is heavier than fat so don't trust it too much.

Just keep a positive self image, dont fret about anyone else and fgs do not make yourself miserable about it, if you want a slice of pizza have one! its better to be happy and lose weight slowly than drop it all fast, turn in to a twig and be hungry and miserable.

your doing the right thing though, just have fun and you'll find it easier to stay motivated

well done!

As an extension to Ez' comment, and as a guy who spends alot of time at the gym. I see them all, big jelly ladies (as you so affectionately call them ;)), stick women and muscular chicks.

When i see one of those big girls just rocking up and down on some random machine. And i do mean when, as they blend in alot more than your think. It's respect more than anything i feel, no matter how they look.
Respect for the fact that they are doing something about it. They are not at home eating 4 pies alone. Feeling sorry for themselfs, and moaning about how hard it is to lose the weight. They are in the gym, sweating it off.
No you might not be able to do more than 10 mins of cardio. But everyone starts somewhere, EVERYONE. Fat, skinny, tall, short. As long as you have a goal, and the will to work towards that goal. People will respect you for it.

So don't let self esteem issues keep you out of the gym. You will feel alittle self concious the first 2 weeks or so. Feel like everyone is in better shape and have more experience than you. But before long you will feel right at home :)
