Theyre still offering store credit for game trade-ins but you can't actually use the credit while they're in administration, cheeky cunts.
You DO realise it is the administrators that are now setting the terms of trading and not the Game Company?

All of the problems that GAME have/had are the result of short sighted CEO's from the past, Ian Shepherd (the last CEO who resigned on Monday) came in and attempted to make good changes but didn't have enough money and time. Personally I believe the fault lies at the previous two CEOs of GAME. They believed that there was no future in online but bricks and mortar.

I was digging through a bunch of old documents at the weekend and I found the online strategy doc presented to the GAME board (and approved) on May 15 2002, almost exactly 10 years ago. I'm really tempted to post it somewhere.

Send it to me and I will post it. It says exactly what I said above...

So our local game (South Shields) had to close, was down there today and found they'd put a sign up.

Would much rather have seen Grainger Games go.

I just don't get it. How could two different CEO & boards fail to implement what they own staff and paid consultants were telling them? It's can't just have been a case of cash in the stock and walk away with the quick profit each time right??

General incompetence, the vast majority of companies that fail, fail because they aren't run by people who are good at what they do.

Comet about to go. Fairly predictable. Dixons group will be next.

Also, has anything changed at game, do people shop there any more?

There was a Gamestation about 50 metres from a Game store in Norwich, of course the Gamestation closed. I did like the gamer influence on the signage though which said "This store is now closed, your nearest respawn point is..."

I stopped shopping in Game when they stopped stocking PC games. :)

From what I remember the stores had all become fairly shite anyway tbh.

I really hope they don't. Dixons are fucking useless for getting stuff from when you can't wait for a delivery.

Well PC world "fixed" a laptop of my wife's friend. During fixing it they installed 5 (five!) antivirus programs and managed to bugger up the .lnk files so that windows attempted to open everything with notepad. For this service they charged her £100

It took me 20 minutes to get it back in working order with a simple registry fix. I should charge people!

On the one hand, I hope Comet doesn't go under because that would really limit the choice for consumers to get white goods.
On the other hand I hope Comet go under so I can pick up a washing machine, tumble dryer, Dyson vacuum cleaner and a couple of other items at a reduction.

Why would it limit choice? They are obviously in trouble people have chosen to buy their stuff elsewhere, presumably because they offer a better and/or cheaper service.

Their only function is to see something in the flesh as it were. We bought all out white goods online after finding the ones we wanted in comet/currys etc.

This.

I research things online, then I like going into stores to look at what I want. But often I want to go away and think about it before I buy.

Then I go online to buy it - partly as I don't have time/energy/tolerance to go to the shops and bump around plebs to get there to pick it up - and often I buy it from somewhere else like Amazon, as they have a better online experience, or it's cheaper, and I find it's much easier to find what I want and get it quickly.

I'm really reluctant to invest a lot of cash in something if I haven't seen it - which is why store closures of places like Comet make me sad.

It's like when a local shop or pub close down, it's all like 'sorry to see that go, it's all these major supermarkets fault etcetc.'

Do they buy anything there? No never set foot in the place!

I tend to go online for most stuff but my parents exclusively buy from the local Grantley's they go in the see what they like they haggle a bit and they buy it. They like the personal touch and think it is worth the extra.

Actually Argos will be next if any one else does go.

Comet was always going to struggle, made even worse when they couldn't get insurance to cover suppliers.

That's always the tell for any high street chain, it's exactly what happened to Woolworths.

For a company dealing in a lot warehouses and distribution they are shockingly behind with online retail.

I reckon you can add games workshop retail onto this list.

Year on year sales declining, but reported net profits increasing. The group is gutting it's retail chain in order to stay above the line. One man stores, open 3 days a week.

Add in the court case with CHS that GW is very likely to come out of badly... And you have a year or two left for workshop stores. In fact they are going to have to change strategy altogether to survive as a business , IMO.

Comet or Currys is the last place I would buy anything from they are always more expensive, get with the fucking times and stop trying to rip everyone off.

They have far more to pay out for than an online company so they probably can't go too much lower.

There's a sign up in our local closed down GAME store with '1000s of prices slashed' on it, one of the staff has replaced the word prices with jobs. :p
