Its a myth? its human biology mate which carries more merit than your street fights.... a strong jab/punch to the throat can cause the throat to constrict which in worse case can cause death and in the very least will stop you from breathing momentarily and/or cause you to lose your voice which is most likely why you've never seen it done unless ofcourse they want some hefty prison time as i'm sure it wouldnt look good infront of a jury trying to claim you accidently punched someone in the throat and killed them during an illegal street fight.

That's sort of right but its the voice box that is the target, not necessarily the throat in general. Actually trying to hit someone in the throat is pretty hard when you consider they will be bunched up with the neck not even visible. You are more likely to hit the chin. Its not much use accept for bringing someone down unexpectedly.
