The wrong approach - Insult stupid people.

This technique will get you insulted back, and little else.

The Tilda approach - Insult stupid people then lock threads.

This works semi-effectively, when you get in trouble the other mods sympathise and plead stupidity on your behalf. However you need to uphold a reputation of incompetence for this to be effective.

The Stealthy approach - Insult stupid people in PM's

Take actions but dont let them know its you, minimum fuss in public, move along folks nothing to see here, hush hush. Effective, makes you seem powerful (this is in fact not the case).

The common approach - Insult stupid people SUBTLEY.

Upon insulting the people, follow this up with a ''. In extreme cases get a group of people who think they are cool as they are 'in' with the mods to back you up or quote you and say you are great. Note - If such people cannot be found, get sharma.

Well there you have it. Last but not least, we will give you a lot of grief at first, after all 90% of the people here dreamed of being mod and you stole that from them. However eventually they will forgive and forget and move onto bigger and better schemes (read: sucking up for custom titles).

EDIT: Oh and a nic elittle anaolgy to reflect upon todays lesson. The community of BW is like a baby that keeps trying to throw itself down the stairs. You can drag it away and prevent it from throwing itself down, but it relentlessly tries, day and night. Whats worse is it gets better at it. Sometimes you just have to let it fall.

Sure you can, just tell me what topics should have been moderated according to you and why.

And to BlitheringIdiot: i am the first person to admit i am learning to find balance between moderating according to BW norms (make these forums readable for everyone) and moderating according to the DaoC community (make these forums a nice place for the community to spend time). These togheter mixed with my own sense should eventually result in healthy moderating from my side.

I don't mind at all to receive critism during this process (afterall, without a community who needs moderating anyway) but the point i was trying to make to Coim is that there is little i can do with loose comments like "points to exca rvr". If you think mistakes are made atleast tell people what went wrong, right?
