Mythic have done nothing but fuck up from the start.
All every character is is just a rehash of several skills put on different chars... where are all the unique skills... its like some monkey put a pen in a list ( of about 12 spells etc) and created character
example .. pick class x.... pick skills x x x pick cast times x x x pick banana .. eat banana
( and i'm well aware there are like 2 or 3 classes with one unique element before all the brainiacs point this out)
It still doesn't matter if the realms were balanced. theres no incentive to play at level fifty than to get stats capped, and get rr10L10. relics are plain stupid.. i stopped caring about them cos they meant nothing... they simply made one realm etc kill easier.
the whole point of this game was to have big, epic battles... but the servers are crap ( and alot of ppls comps are too ). add to that the l33t pricks who think they're ace cos they mastered the 'complex' interface and the various ins and out of skirmish rvr, who also decide that your lame if move in more than 1 fg.
they make 99% of pve pointless with spellcraft, apart from the sidi raids ( of which most items suck anways) or just general level grinding. this also lowered the worth of any high lvl item, as well as screwing casters over. and i'll tell you why buffs/ resists screw casters over in general....
a caster ( pure damage etc) lives or dies by whether he can kill a tank running towards him before he reaches him... now, you take away 60% ( through resists) of his damage and double your hp ( due to con and af shields), make the tank hit alot harder and faster. give the caster minimal defence still even fully buffed.. give determination and purge and every tank thinking there gimped if they don't have a insta dd or interupt for a caster.. ( poor casters). give no collision detection between enemies to try and protect your casters only a stun which gives you another 1 cast maybe ( due to gay interupt system) or a few secs to run away before they perma sprint after you.
They make a stupid ra system, forcing ppl to have ra's just to compete at all.... made even worse by the fact that they are instas ( aka no skill ) or on timers meaning a rr1 could beat a rr10 etc all other circumstances being equal, regardless of whether the rr10 is a better player.
solutions: fuck spellcraft ( make it hard *gasp* to cap all stats), add colision detection, half values of buffs, take out mastery of arcane etc, give ranged buffs ( like spell pulse) cap resists at 26% ( except for maybe ra's adding 3% etc). take out all instas, take out speed ( controversial and maybe boring to travel... but really screws casters over imo). make ra's all passive.. augmenting the skills they already have, and not making them invincible every 30 mins.
wow .. hows that for a whine. and before you say leave the game .. i have. The only reason i stayed so long was for guild and a glimmer of hope that mythic might do something to balance/make lvl 50 more than just killing.
i now play NWN, where all classes are generally balanced, and almost every character has the choice to try out thousands of different specs. and the best bit.. the gm's actually do interesting quests for ppl of ALL levels to participate.
oh well. rant off. just some points to mull over. if you still enjoy daoc in its current state, then all the power to you.
