What's the point in playing?

It's true that you'll be hard pressed to play RvR below lvl45.
Although there's always the Battlegrounds.
But RvR is not the only aspect of the game.
If all you want is RvR, seriously, you ought to stick to Online FPS games like Rune or something like that, where it's all action and stuff.

I would've had a level 50 if I didn't get a second account.

I think this has to be a windup.
You have TWO accounts and don't like DAOC?...

I liked it, but no more.
It was really fun when I started out.
Now people aren't even greatful if you give them stuff.

started playing the 2nd month of DAoC in Europe. I'm no newcomer.

either you got the wrong year, been in VERY closed beta, or you´re a liar :p

Is this guy Marvin the Paraoid Andriod????? (for those who dont know a char from the epic "Hitch-Hikers guide to the Galaxy")

Ya dont like it dont play, dont pay and sod off :p sounds to me like no game on the PC is for you, so go play with sommit that does interest you, buy a barbie one of them dolls that wets itself or sommit, they will give you more sympathy than we will.

As for why I play (as you asked) - sociablilty with ppl from around euro, great game play in both PvE and RvR (10x better than most), stories and quests are well thought and make things a lil more interesting, and often encorouge ppl to grp and make freinds.

Sounds to me like you aint found any m8s in the game to keep you interested m8, get out more.

Having 2 accounts before finding out you don't like it? Hmm... why have my bullshitometers just redlined?

Can't make up my mind if this is a wind-up or just having a pop at the community because they like something you don't so therefore everyone else must be in the wrong. Even reasonable answers on this thread are picked apart by the poster or glossed over to have a pop in other ways. I don't believe you genuinely want to hear anything positive, just have a pop out of frustration at whatever is eating you right now.

I know a lot of people though that don't like something just because they find they're not any good at it. Don't know if that is the case here... ;)

And btw people are still grateful when you give them things. I'd like to thank you for brightening up a rather dull lunchtime after an unimpressive tuna baguette :)

/cheers

Well I been playing over a year now, my highest is level 41 (but Ive also played most other classes in albion to 24 or higher).

Dunno what keeps me going - the system aint all bad and grouping with people is nice (sometimes:))

As for people being gratefull, I donated most of my vault to a new guild this morning, he was over the moon!

I suppose what I find most interesting is how non-UK people and UK people (like myself) can instantly strike up a conversation where using any other medium I would find it less likely that we would do so.

I dont find the lvl 50 very special tbh. I like the exping and hunts for drops and such. Also, how boring the exping may be, it all gets fun if u are in a grp with crazy and relaxed ppl. (not talking about suicidal morons who pull the whole exp spot here)

Sure RvR can be fun. but most of the time u get zerged, killed by buffbotted stealthers or u simply run over the few ppl that are in the area, with your grp. So i would say that the main reason i still play is bcus all the crazy ppl i the game and all fun u have with em. The times i dont find the playing funny, i simply leave the comp and go do something else.

Edit: Wrong quote button -_-

I don't count the beta as the game reaching Europe.
I think I remember before I started to play that the game openyl started for everybody in February 2001 (STILL not sure if 2001 is the year. Warriors of the Mist was started back then at least, for you in Prydwen/Midgard).
I could be wrong.

It's not really hard to not be good at DAoC. Not sure wether you're talking about ignorance or die-alot.
I'm probably more ignorant that most, I wont deny that, but it's not the reason why I'm not sure wether to resubscribe or not. Not the specific reason, at least.

As for people not being greatful, I mean that sometimes I hand out alot of gold to new players I see (note that it's done with the "high" level character(s) of mine), and all I get in return is "thx".
I think that when I hopefully get my hands on the US version, I can start playing on the roleplay servers or Gaheris.

The threadstarting post wasn't -that- negative, was it? To piss you off like this, I mean.

And I don't get out :)

If you have 8 Characters all level 10, then it sounds like you have been adventuring in the same place all the time.

Try choosing a character of the 8 you like and level him higher.

You would see new quests, new items, new areas and even meet new people.

The last part is important, the game is not just the creature battles, it's about interacting with other 'real' players.

Is it even possible to be playing DAOC (Apparently regularly) WITH TWO ACCOUNTS and only have 8 lvl 10 chars.

It's extremely easy to lvl a char to lvl 10. You could lvl 8 chars to lvl 10 in a weekends play.

Actually, this is the first time I've whined. Congratulations to DAoC on that :)

Also, those level 10's were created the last 2 weeks, not for the whole time I've played.
I've had at least 3, maybe 4 level 20's, but they've gotten deleted so I could make new character.
I'm a roleplayer, and I like to have many roles ot pick from.
And I try those characters out to find which suits me the best.

hmm, well what would you like? perhaps a small statue erected in Mularn, in dedication to your generosity? Maybe a song of your chivalry?

thx is often more than clerics get for rezzing someone, in fact i've been flamed for rezzing before. It's more than minis and sorcerors get for mezzing the horde thats closing on the wizzy, in mid cast.

stop expecting so much, dude! play the games you like, the way you like playing them. If you're not having fun, either change the way you play, or go and do something you DO enjoy...

Actually, what I think he's saying is this:

The RP in MMORPG doesn't stand for Realm Points.

I may be wrong, though.

For some ppl, RvR is all about RPs.
A couple of nights ago, I joined a group who were helping some guy with an Epic quest in Emain somewhere.
If you're looking for a specific thing in DAOC, then make the effort to find it.

Just "Thanks". It seems more sincere that way.

Mythic said on i think their lasted post on the Herald, something in the lines of "The joy of being an MMOG provider...[insert the rest here]".
It've lost the RolePlay in the MMORPG.

Well, TBH.
If you REALLY want the roleplaying experince, you ought to play Pen and Paper RPG's.
Computer MMORPGs have nothing on P&P rpgs.
If I hadn't moved away from all my roleplaying buddies, I wouldn't even be playing DAOC.

sorry but u have 8 level 10 chars and find it boring? hell so would i. Find a char and stick to it

life may not begin solely at 50 (altho it does really) but at least get to level 19 and 24 and 35 etc and enjoy the BG

at level 10 theres nothing interesting to do i'll grant you, level up to 15-19 and go have fun in the BG.

and 1 year for 8 level 10s ????

it takes ~5 hours /played to get to level 10 without plev.

Sigh... these characters are not my only ones!
These are my CURRENT ones! Great difference. I've had two level 30's.

All of my current characters have about 4-5 of gametime played as well. Never said they took long to generate.

Like ppl said, try sticking to one char and getting it to 50 and RvRing properly, whining about the boredom youve got with PvE and quests is your own fault, as all youve done is the same stuff over and over with the 8 level 10s you have.

Getting to 40+ opens up a lot more in the game, more quests, more adventures and challenges, more reasons to group.

As for role play, well the quests do try and encorage ppl to get involved with the realm itself, you hate the quests so cant call yourself an RPer.

Want to put some RP in the game, then organise some ffs, find like minded ppl and do it, create the element youre missing out on. Hell, the Midgard bazaar did wonders for one day, ppl had a great time and im sure the things other realms did too.

Games can be made into what you want from them, games liek this more so. Im sure if you had a half decent idea on role play, even the guys at GOA might lend a hand (as they did with our event!)

I personally really enjoyed the low level gaming.
I remember going on Dungeon bashes in Mithra and killing Earth elementals near prydwen bridge and then moving onto West downs etc etc..

Had lots of fun chatting to other players meanwhile and all the ins and outs and politiccing and discovering guild membership and so on.

Later on I started doing quests and people I met along the way helping me out sometimes and the other way around.

And examining maps for other interesting areas, testing the possibilities for classes.

All sorts of things actually, quite often there WAS a roleplaying element to it, if you find the right people anyway.

I'm gonna do it all over again with my sorcerer now.
Can't wait to go online and have fun...
Damn, bloody work and RL.

I don't mean the quest background itself, but how it's performed. I should've been more clear at that.
With my level 30 characters, the quests from level 1 and up to that has been to get something and return it, or to do something with it.
I'm no D&D freak, in fact, the only games I've played with that is BG1, Icewind Dale and a little of Neverwinter Nights, but in their quests, you get miniquests sort of while going there.
You could find a dead body, pick it up and ask people about it, then get a reward that might make the real quest easier.
When venturing down the Tomb of Mithra, Barrows and what not, it would be really interesting if suddenly the floor collapes below you, and you had to find yourself another way out.

Different stories, yes, but basically, you do the same thing all the time.
