News from 12-01-2007 said:Background Piece : the names of cluster servers
As you probably know, the European Dark Age of Camelot's server names were inspired by Arthurian and Celtic legends. This is why we decided to keep this tradition with the new cluster server names. But since these new names are rarely known to non-specialists, this background piece will differ from the others in order to explain to you the origins of each of name.
Temair, also known as Teamhair na Riogh and Tara Hill, is a high place in Hibernia. The legend says it is the entrance to the otherworld. It is at Temair that the Destiny Stone Lia Fail stands. It was brought by the Thuatha of Dannan when they came to Hibernia, and was used to crown High Kings before the creation of the Veil. This is also where the Hibernian Council took place before the reign of Arthur.
Kernyw duchy (also called Cornwall) is an Albion region now stricken and deserted by its inhabitants. Marcus, the latest duke who reigned there died in the second Dartmoor campaign. A few years earlier, as the rumour said that terrible things were going to happen in this doomed territory, Dunsten, the only son of the duke, organized the first campaign. Dunsten disappeared as well as all the knights accompanying him. Today, the mourning Cornwall is under the protection of Albion defenders and ruled by the duke of Adribard.
Kattraeth is where happened the famous battle between Arthur's army and the innumerable and unscrupulous invaders. Although Arthur was leading a fight for the first time, and his army was inferior in number, he proved how brave and strategic he was. Despite the very delicate situation, Arthur's army won the battle. The king honoured the surviving knights and was from then on followed by his veterans in every battle including very dangerous ones.
Canterbury (literally "Kent men stronghold", also known as Cantwarebyrig) is a great city located in eastern Albion. Its history gives it a heterogeneous look. Arthur was crowned in its abbey, and while Arawn's servants were increasing their influence in the realm, the Canterbury archbishop ordered the construction of the great cathedral for the Light.
Dyvet, also called "Dyfed Realm" is the territory of the legendary prince Pwyll. During a hunt, the knight met Arawn himself, who let him see the Otherworld. When Pwyll proved his valour and loyalty, Arawn named him Annwn leader. After many adventures, he married a great lady, Rhiannon, and ruled with wisdom and honour. Since the death of Pwyll, the Dyvet princess has kept receiving courtiers, who are attempting to become the new country leader.
Count Oringles castle is located in Limors, where part of the Erec and Enide romance took place. Erec the knight was a member of the Round Table fellowship and Guinevere escort. While completing his quest of avenging the queen's honour, he met Enide and conquered her love in a harsh tournament. This is after his fight against giants to save Karradoc the knight that Erec and Enide's love story in Limors castle took place. Erec came back exhausted and fell asleep so deeply that his spouse thought he was dead. When he woke up, he realized that Count Oringles, thinking Enide was a widow, was trying hard to get married to her. The knight and his lady ran away from Limors successfully before that happens.
Limors is also the place where Lancelot had to fight a giant and two lions bare-handedly for entering the city in arms.
