The article is just laughable. If anything the Middle East is becomming more westernised. They even changed the weekend days here in the UAE last year. From Thur/Fri to Fri/Sat for business to better work with US/EU.

As for the Fench Muslim invention of the Mecca watch, these have been around for more than 30 years. The Mecca Indicators were installed on Saudia aircraft in the 80's. Developed by Smiths Industries based in Cheltenham England. Basically just an offset compass.

Ofc. I have noticed a real tendency towards inflammatory stories regarding muslims and immigrants on the BBC news site recently but I cant for the life of me see why they are heading on that path - it seems oddly out of character?

Edit - oh and on the penalties for leaving - this is a characteristic of all the worst kinds of religious cults yet even they dont execute people for leaving - its things like this that make western democracy and Islam incompatible.
