While I don't particularly disagree about the jazz comment, if you think that metal songs consist of 4 chords then I can only suggest to you the thing I suggested to marc. Listen to real heavy metal and not the shite which gets hyped up by record companies because all they are all pop bands with distortion who sing about getting paper cuts and how bad their life is...

Again, dream theatre, jason becker and down ...3 very different metal bands/guitarists which are much better then anything found in the charts (for complexity even if you disagree about their ease of listening)

hmm you contradict yourself, on one hand you are implying that bands in the charts are shite, but you point out that Metallica are americas 7th biggest selling artist ever.

Static X are industrial? I thought industrial was mostly music didnt really involve lyrics or singing of any kind, its kinda dark sounds, varying pace irratically. I'll check that tune out anyways, I like Static X.

LCD Soundsystem - Losing My Edge

^^ That's ambient you're talking about there I think. Industrial is where mechanical sounds, keyboards and programming are very prominent and most of the time take centre stage in the music, e.g. Nanochrist, Voivod, Nine inch nails etc

I was trying to imply that bands which are purely a face who can't actually sing, nor do they write their own songs or sing live on television are indeed, shite. Bands which only write songs which they think will get the most sales and are afraid to do something less ordinary in case they drop in sales. My last comment was aimed at bands such as linkin park which are just pop with distortion and a load of whining thrown in for good measure...

They will never produce any songs that will go down as "true classics" . Why is this? IS it because people pour scorn on the genre, believeing it is reserved for angry pre pubescent teenagers or is it because they just lack the talent to be considered good artists?

Metallica are indeed the 7th largest selling band in america which shows that they too have produced songs which will go down in history as true classics but the difference is, when was a metallica song last put on the radio? How often do they get on top of the pops? Next to never purely because large scale commercialisation and bands who do what they want don't mix. I can fully see why; seeing a robby williams song followed by metallica then britney spears just wouldn't seem right on a show :p I personally didn't really like what they did with their last album, nor did most of their fans yet they still get branded as commercial... purely because of their album sales. o_O It's a different ball game.

Might be because of your taste in music? Oo

Edit: Or just a different definition of "a classic" ^^

Well put it this way, Slipknot and the likes wont ever make a classic song. Pure rubbish.

Tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuune ! That has tobe one of the most liberating tunes I have ever heared, when played in clubs, the buildup is so great, everyone rejoices and generally just get down like mad when that song gets played.
