Hello owners I would like to ask a quick question. I am reading that the box has a Library mode similar to XBMC what i cant seem to find is an answer to if it works off a NAS drive or not. Some people claim it works some say it only works from a USB disk. I would like to know if any of the Owners here have it set up in a NAS box fashion. IE my TV and Films folder are stored on my NAS o want to add these files to a library to get media information and to keep watched data ect. If any real person can answer the question I will be very pleased :).

I already own a ATV3 and a RPi. The TV3 is not good until jailroken and while the RPi is silent which is what i want the fucker is slow not matter what image i use and what tweaks i make the menu navigation is bullshit and the library is what i like so it is not fit for purpose.

I read a review the other day saying the WD does that so it must be there somehow, personally though not sure why ya dissatisfied with the ATV2, I have a couple and have never had any problems with them :) In fact, will potentially be buying a couple of ATV3's to go with the other couple of tv's in the house I was so impressed with them... as far as i'm concerned they have one flaw - they don't automatically load the next episode in a tv series under either the iTunes player or Netflix :/ but that's like a software fix for one day.

I set my WDTV to access my NAS via network shares and it works well.

Pretty sure in Netflix you press the play button on the remote when highlighting the series (i.e. don't bring up the list of episodes) and it'll load the first unwatched episode, then when it stops you press play again and it'll start the next one in the series.

Is that with the library feature or just playing files?

Once I've set up the shares I use My Media Library as the source, I've split my NAS video folder into three different folders which are Films, Personal and TV Shows to enable me to keep them organised a bit better which show up as three sections under the video option on the WDTV. If you name the film so it matches the name at http://www.themoviedb.org/ then you can manually download the information or you can select it to automatically download the data when it scans the library. TV shows are done off the http://thetvdb.com/ website.

You can select how you want to view the media, for example below is a quick phone snap of Gallery View:

Just in case you are not sure, for automatic/manual naming of TV Shows to work properly as well as the matching the name on http://thetvdb.com/ you need season and episode information so a TV series like Farscape is named like this - Farscape.S01E01
