More sanctions coming soon. They sound pretty tough.
Working at an entity that is involved in applying sanctions I can assure you they do indeed sound tough.

We're still paying Russia hundreds of millions a day, right?

Is it possible you could consider that we don't really care - not enough to stand in solidarity with suffering Ukranians by enforcing energy rationing (or even just telling people to turn down their heating - I mean, we're in April now anyway - so the worst of the cold is over with).

When we stop sending money to Russia for the gas and oil the West receives from them, and then when Russia stops the gas and oil, then and only then will I think "we actually, really, give a shit".

First NATO (Czech) country has sent tanks (T-72's) and armoured infantry vehicles for the Ukraine to use.

Pocket change sent to Ukraine in comparison tbh, big drama here is the main energy (and state owned) energy company is still importing coal from Russia (not sanctioned yet)

Genuine question - given that coal is still needed despite various groups suggesting we can power modern economies on fairy dust and unicorn farts - where else do we get it from?

I mean - not even a "you must work from home if you can" edict like we had during Covid? 28.4% on Transport.

Nothing from governments about rapidly insulating housing stock to reduce our energy dependence?

Nooooope.

Um, you realise you've posted 2020 numbers from when we were all told to work from home where we could?

It's just indicative. If transport is higher now (which is likely) then a WFH edict could have more importance, no?

35bn paid to Russia since the invasion started. We've done dick, really. Apart from ensure that Russia's nose has been bloodied in the hope that they'll think twice about doing it elsewhere (at the cost of lives).

But we've done nothing that would even mildly inconvenience Western publics. Life is carrying on as normal. The 'leccy bills more expensive, but that's about it.

We've ruled out military intervention (correctly). But is the west going to do anything else that actually matters?

I mean, other than just being really angry on twitter?

To quote Twitter speak - Tell me you are completely out of touch with the everyday person without telling me you're out of touch with the every day person.

You say the leccy bills are a "bit" more expensive, but there are more than a few people now having to make the choice between heating their homes and eating who were managing perfectly OK, which I'd call more than a "mild inconvenience". Now I'm sure in whatever ideal world you inhabit we could do without gas, but sadly here in the real world it's a pretty fucking important energy source, considering it's what we power the country with when the sun doesn't shine and the wind doesn't blow.

I mean we could say no to Russian Gas - which the UK does pretty much already - but considering the EU outsourced their energy policy to a Swedish school dropout we kind of have to keep on buying it until we find another energy source. Renewables aren't going to do it for all sorts of reasons, and your sort have been shitting the bed about nuclear for as long as I can remember, so what's the alternative? Put another jumper on and hope for the best, or try to find another source for the things we need to power society?

I'd go for the second one personally.

You're not going to find "another power source**" in the timescale required to really kick Russia in the balls over Ukraine - which is needed now, no?

So yes, what I'm saying is - put some fucking jumpers on people. Turn your heating off. Show some solidarity with Ukraine and stop us having to buy Russian gas and oil.

Not only that - but turn off some unnecessary industry. The shit that produces tat that we don't need.

Job losses and being cold < bombings, death and mass rape, no?

Or, alternatively, whine about Ukraine, without doing anything meaningful? Really meaningful.

**your brain farts might do it if we can find a pipe big enough to attach to your arsehole.

They'll be going where they want to go, on private jets, spending cash in whatever denomination they want.

I doubt they'll blink.

To be fair - loads of MPs from across the political spectrum have been paid by RT for one reason or another. Lots of tories, labour and lib dems. Galloway got paid around 80 grand for presenting a show in 2014 IIRC.

Not exactly "russian state media" is he.

Cunt? Yep. But a Russian? Nope.

yeahhhh....

Except he is also pushing Russian propaganda on Twitter.

He would also still be presenting his pro-Russia talk show, Sputnik, if RT wasn't banned.

So, if you're Pro-Russia, you should get labled as "state media"? Quick google shows that Sputnik is produced by American media org - Associated Press. But to be fair, maybe they should just label him "cunt" :)

No, he is actively spreading misinformation. Hence the label

They haven't banned him...just made sure that people know he is peddling twaddle.

I would like to debate on this topic but a) I've not got access to twitter to look for myself and b) everyone gets whiny when Scouse starts asking questions. So I'll duck out now. He's a cunt anyway (and yep, they've not banned him - they've just added the label "this isn't approved-of speech")

:)
