You need to think carefully about such things. If you go and damage his "stuff", he'll certainly come back and do the same to you. There's a certain dickhead not far from me who believes it's ok to bully cyclists out of his way. I know where he lives, and what car he drives. I could very easily go and ruin his car, but I'd rather be the bigger man and just ignore the twat. Besides, I have a handlebar camera now so I'd rather just capture him doing it again, and destroy his career via YouTube.

I think if he's paying then you are fine, but you do need to report to your insurance company that you were hit by another driver and they are sorting it personally. You don't have to claim or ask them to pursue a claim.

TLDR.

You should report it to the police and your insurance company because:
  1. You'll be worse off if he's fucked you about. Have you got a copy of his passport proving that's his real address, etc?
  2. The cunt that did this is driving without a licence, what if he does it again and mows down a relative of yours or someone you know?

He has a license...the only reason they pleaded not to go to the po'po is because he hasnt been driving for 2 years and would lose his license and needs to travel to nautical college some miles away. Daily

You should tell your insurance as quickly as possible but you can say to them that the other party has offered to resolve the matter privately. They'll then log it as being reported and you can tell them at a later date if the other party has resolved it or not.

At least that's what I did about 14 years ago when some nut job objected to me overtaking him in his Mum's suped up Cavalier convertible he had 'borrowed' to drive his tart of a gf around in and decided to try and race me and then promptly rear ended me when I stopped to allow traffic which had right of way to use a single carriageway bit of road.

His parents offered to resolve the matter privately - that turned out that some dodgy bloke turned up and looked at my car and told me he could fix it. When I asked what sort of guarantee I'd get on the mechanics and bodywork he got flustered and walked off. I then told my insurance that they were no longer looking to resolve it privately and it went through the insurance company. My no claims wasn't affected in anyway. That's a while ago mind so it could have changed.

{edit} Also if you're hit by an uninsured driver doesn't it come out of some pot somewhere that all the insurance companies are supposed to contribute to (yet another reason they give for hiking up premiums) and not affect your no claims?

Pretty much yes - the Motor Insurance Bureau - but I wasnt going to confuse things by bringing that up until it turned out to be neccesary :)

Nice one Laddey, though that £1400 will only just cover your finance and insurance for 3 months?

I would think so my mates Windscreen on his Nissan people carrier had to be shipped from Japan and cost (his insurance) £1600 or something ridiculous.

Well mate, i've been offered a job as a slinger banksman about 4 miles away from my house and i start on a trial wage at £11.30...So i'm keeping the car and using the money from this bloke to invest in my blue card tower crane NVQ level 2

I heard that if ti's too windy for a tower crane operator to work safely they basically get paid for doing nothing. Not certain about the veracity of such a claim thought.

Aren't the crane operators at ports on ridiculously good money too?

A friend who operates a tower crane said anything over 45mph winds and he gets down. You're your own boss and if the site agent tells you to lift something and you think its unsafe, u dont have to do it.

A vital piece of equipment you MUST take up to your cab is....

a...

portable dvd player lol. Towards the end of the job you could be doing 1 lift a day, maybe 0. So i'm gonna invest in an ipad 2 3g to take with me, watch porn and get paid.

Feel good that your lack of cynicism has probably helped a very sorry young man have a brighter future.

Not that he had a bad future anyway, but he's still human... :)

it's daddy's car yes ?
then why cant daddy's insurence cover the expences ?

but then again, I'm not familliar with UK Insurence practice, but in Denmark it's demanded by law
to have what we call a "Ansvars Forsikring" roughly translated = Liability Insurance, which is bound to the owner of the car and not the driver.
meaning, that if you laon your car out to someone who is uninsured you are liable for any damage your car may cause in trafic.

Doesn't work like that over here. Besides the insurance company wouldn't pay out because it was probably TWOC.

In the UK it is the person that is insured, not the car.

As i said in page 2, it's much better in Europe where you insure the car and not the driver ;P
