I wouldn't worry about my no claims if he hit a stationary car lol, insurance company will sue him for the payout so you will still have a clean policy, seriously laddey i wouldn't fuck around and accept some random dudes promises

I think in insurance policies it usually says you must notify them within reasonable time - this isnt strictly defined though but dont hang around for weeks on end.

Can anyone quote a factual source for this?

I appreciate all your advice on the matter.

He's got til the end of the week to get it sorted. He has
1) flown back from egypt early
2) got me a hire car for 14 days
3) paid for a tow truck to take it away
4) tomorrow transferring a grand to my bank.

Sounds fairly serious to me. He also said he'll get a testimony or something signed and legally bind etc in the next few days

Im seeing what options i have open to me.

He's transferring a grand to my bank wednesday morning as a deposit. If he fucks about i claim off my insurance and he doesn't get his money back.

He's already paid for the vehicle to be towed away and has me a rental car for 14 days. So why would he mess about?

Seeing what i have available to me and other peoples opinions on it.

He could be waiting for you to pass the point of no return insofar as legitimate claims can be made, there will be a point where he has your balls in a vice and can just refuse to pay you any more money, wanting to get out of your cars finance is fine but don't think of this as an opportunity to get out of that think of it as an excercise in looking out for number 1, too many wankers in the world who will fuck you over if they see you as a soft touch.

Who is the insurer? A fair amount of insurance companies have FAQs re "what if I wasn't to blame?" and "what if Deebs' nose got in the way?" etc. on their websites, try having a look there.

Great, thank you - now we've got some fact to that claim.

Yeah - I never read the whole insurance policy myself - from what the AA says its probably in every UK policy.

The bit about being refused cover in the future is the worrying bit - that would be marked on the insurers database and ensure that in the future either insurers A - wont cover you or B - want a lot more dosh. You have to declare if you have ever been refused cover when you apply for anywhere else and failure to disclose could void your policy.

You could maybe report the accident but say that the other side want to settle it without a claim and then let them know how it goes?

Im worried now as if my insurance is void and he refuses to pay then im left with a fucked car and a massive debt.

Setting him on fire wont get me my money only a prison sentence.

On your no claims bonus - it says you keep your no claims for:

claims which aren’t your fault where we have recovered all of our money

So you will probably be ok as he wont want the kid to get a CCJ against him.

Which is basically what I said regarding you'll only have an issue if the insurer can't get the money back, but it sounds like he's good for it. Anyway, if you have legal cover then they'll be like a pack of blood thirsty wolves and rape him for every penny.

You should be fine - you can tell them that the other side has offered to pay for the repairs and that you arent currently claiming - that way your covered either way.

Laddey you can call your Insurance company and report it. Tell them that the guy wants to sort it privately though so you don't want them to go after him yet and see what they say. That way any time issues are covered.

To be fair. I offered to sort an issue out away from an insurance company for an ex girlfriend once. Didn't want to get the insurance company involved.

I was well pissed off when they dobbed us in. I'd have stumped up the cash honestly.

If he's paid for the car already and is stumping up cash then he's at least showing good faith. Insurance companies will *definitely* want to take it further. There's no "seeing what'll happen" with them...

but you have a legal commitment to report all accidents to the insurance ... otherwise they can use it to void your policy in the future if they find out ... and its pretty easy to see a mint car from a repaired car how ever well its done ..

What if you hit a brick wall, or a tree, or roll into your garage? Are you going to talk to your insurance company or get it fixed yourself?

With the way insurance premiums (and companies) are, fuck that. You take a financial decision - if you can afford to get it done without getting the insurance companies involved (and its cost effective enough) you do that.

If I'm (unlucky enough to be) a father, and my son rings me up and says "dad, I took your car out and crashed it into some blokes car, sorry. Help me, please" - I'll go around to that persons house and offer to sort out their problems and ask to keep it away from the insurance companies so my son doesn't get a criminal record because he's done something that loads of teenagers do when they're young.

I.E. Stupid stuff. Kids do stupid stuff, remember? Some are unlucky enough to get caught.

Or are we all scum?

The trick in that situation is to ensure that your punishment is worse than the police's.

I can assure that my 'punishment' would be worse. No doubt.
