TV update

Hi ;)

If anyone's interested I have cancelled my impending (september LOL :D) installation of Active Digital. I am now gonna keep analogue cable, but order Sky Digital. Does anyone know how long the bods at sky take to get round to installing it so I know when to cancel my current cable.

I was told a week to 10 days, from purchase, it took exactly 7 days. However, it is subject to availabilty of Fitters in your area.

BTW should I order online or go to Dixons or somewhere. Also any tips on 'using' the set top box? ;)

Hi :)

I just phoned the guy at telewest to ask the procedure to cancel my analogue. I also told him the digital installation cancellation was in the post. He asked why I was cancelling, hehe :). I told him bout ouur little community here and that there were numerous threads bout digital (hope noone minds ;)) He sed he has had it for a good while now (b4 the customers :)) and IHO it wasn't THAT bad (he even said good) and that I should get it installed then I have 5 days to 'evaluate' it before cancelling if it is crap as mooks, stu and every1 sez. So now I have to 'put up' with analogue cable till the 9/9, I swear if they screw up my verbal cancellation of my written cancellation iit's sky digi for me ;)

err.. doesnt seem to be 'good' here. interactive still not working tho, although they have fixed the crashing ( apparently caused by the analog and digital signals being too close together - i managed to get a techie who actually KNEW what he was talking about!!!)
erm, so it doesnt crash as much and the picture hasnt gon pixxely in about 3 days...
its getting a BIT better, but the TV guide still takes an AGE to update, funny really, they can download at 50kb/s on the same line, but the basic text tv guide sometimes takes up to a minute to appear. ahh well, hoping they get the interactive sorted soon it was alledgedy supposed to start on the 15th of july. its now the 22nd and look, no interactive. PULL YER FINGER OUT TELEWEST AND DO SOME FUCKIN WORK ALREADY!
*ahem* rant over, probably more to come. :)

reckon they will ever have (or have similar to) sky sports extra/sky news extra etc.

no doubt about it, when its good, it should be loads better than sky digi, the possibilities are endless because of the connect, its just telewest deciding to pull its finger out and get something done!

Now I think I don't want to be tied up for 12 months w/ skydigi :eek: Telewest can't be THAT slow/bad, surely.

/edit Is there switch for aspect ratio (4:3 16:9 etc) on the telewest box as I believe there is on sky digi's box and know there is w ONdigi

i work as a sky sales rep, u are quite right in that fitting is around 5-7 dys if ordered through rep like me, or sky direct. Longer through the stores, who also insist on the full tv package and/or extended warranty being taken at point of sale.
Out of interest, telewest reps have recently joined my team at sky , as they have been instructed NOT to sell active digital until further notice, however long that may be. (i'm talking several of the yorkshire cable sales team here!). Apparently, there was a press release from telewest a few days ago detailing the delays/problems, but haven't seen it meself.
