Watching the live BBC footage of cars running away from the waves, failing and being lost. No words.

Yet, the last big earthquake in Japan took the lives of 3000 iirc.

No casualties as of yet right?

Proves how developed are the japs in this field :iagree:

It even managed to produce a whirlpool.

Incredible stuff, specially with the boat circling it. Just hope it was empty at the time!

26 dead so far but estimated 10,000's of potentially from the waves.

32 confirmed dead now but we know it's going to rise well above that.

Felt sick when I saw the footage this morning, it's a crazy place this planet we live on.

aye just glad we didnt build on techtonic plates like that or we'd be fucked.

Hardly matters, if the Gran Canaria shelf ever goes, the south of England could be just as exposed to a tsunami as the PacRim countries who are going to get hit today, and potentially a much bigger tsunami at that.

well I meant for quakes in the UK in general not the flooding part. just been reading the waves that hit japan were around 10meters high the coasts of those mentioned are going to be fucking devestated, poor bastards I hope they're getting away from the coast as fast as possible.

Luckily Manchester is a long way away from any coast that would be threatened by that tsunami if it should ever happen.

I had that pit of the stomach feeling when I watched that helicopter footage. Boats being washed inland, debris on fire, articulated lorries caught up like driftwood. Seeing it wash over a levee, over the river, over the other levee and just carry on makes you realise this is major.
It's one thing to watch fx in films like 2012, it's another thing entirely when you know it's live footage.

Bro threw an idea that it might have to do with the sun popping X-class flares. No idea myself, might as well be.

If that's the case, 2013 is gonna be a blast.

the world is gonna go boom soon.

More a case of better knowledge via reporting and widespread population getting in the hotspots.

In a planetary scale, this is a light fart after a prunesalad.

In any case, all tech aside, Tokio getting hit is rather movie like, surreal.
