This would've been a bad enough breach of trust, but then Gideon goes and tells everyone else, when both GOA and Brannor, who wouldn't have known for sure if Gideon hadn't told him, weren't going to tell anyone.

all this amounts to is Gideon sticking his nose in, and acting all righteously, when it in fact had nothing to do with him, at all.

Uhm pardon me, but if someone hacks into other player's accounts, I certainly want to know who the culprit is.

Breach of trust, my ass. What's next? pr0n had a difficult childhood?

I dont normally agree with Mr sick here (hell, dont think I read anything that he ever wrote I agree with - no offense:)) but I do here. If someone admits to you that they have committed a crime, do you keep quiet? Hell no!

Dont get me wrong - I have absolutely no idea who either of you are so I cant judge - hell, im not even sure what went on.

In my opinion, yes. It had nothing to do with him, _at all_, and the only reason he knew, was because kr0n told him, in trust. I'm not actually defending kr0n here, it's just pathetic that Gideon interfered with what should've been a matter between kr0n and GOA. Brannor, according to GOA, shouldn't even know who did this, and only knows because Gideon abused kr0n's trust, and told him.

Sick, I'm sure you would, and I prolly would too.
I'm just saying it wasn't Gideons place to tell brannor/everyone. GOA said they weren't going to tell Brannor, what gives gideon that right?

<puts on his stirring hat>

Why post again then? I see very little constructive comment in here from Brannor that couldn't be achieved in another manner much more effectively...is he really that honorable?

pr0n has basically commited a crime (hacking is... now isn't it?), violated everyone else's trust and has the guts to come here and "lool".

If he would have at least had the guts to just disappear or create a new forum identity... fine.
But he hasn't. And people have a right to know who not to trust.

I assume Gideon was aware that he'd get flames for naming the culprit. So - respect, daddy.

Who not to trust? Afaik, kr0n's only crime here is to hack Brannor's pc (not that that isn't a big enough crime). So, the only reason not to trust him, would be with IP address's, right?

Tbh, imo anyone who gives out their IP address without having sufficient protection is kinda stupid anyway, and prolly deserves to be hacked :(

but again, this is just my opinion, feel free to flame me for it.

Nah... no flaming.

Look - alot of people have no idea how to protect their comp properly. I don't think they deserve to get hacked.

Not trusting him with one's IP adress? How did he get Brannor's IP?
#daoc.prydwen

pr0n deserves to be named and shamed.
Example: when Brannor wrote his first post and was absolutely clueless, pr0n offered helpful advice how one can protect his/her comp better etc. etc.

It's his audacity that pisses me off.
I am sure he feels all leet and uber.

Well done, Nolby Pride.
Another complete arsehole joined your ranks.

You mis-understand me Lochlyessa - I meant Layl said

"Prove it"

so I was asking him if you were wrong:)

ps I dont think a poor kid who dishes out the IP address of his parents PC to some hacker deserves to have his PC hacked do you? Sure, every kid knows you dont take candy from a stranger but if they do and something happens would you say they deserve it?

It just makes me sick there are people that just has to do things like this. Lochy said its not a big crime, but what if Brannor had got his account deleted, then he would have lost the money and time he put into creating the chars he had on it.

What if Brannor has his machine erased? What is Brannor had any banking information on his machine? It could have been much worse!

Hmm, if you re-read my post, I think you'll find I said "(not that that isn't a big enough crime)".

kr0n WAS wrong to hack Brannor, he also got punished by GOA, and even tho he had the chance, he didn't erase Brannor's characters. Dealing with thousands of 'what ifs' and 'maybes' doesn't help.

But he still commited a crime and i hope you dont think its any extenuating circumstances that he didt delete the chars.

I do know he committed a crime, and you keep seeming to forget that _kr0n_ got his account deleted for it. For the amount of time he put into that account, I reckon that would've been punishment enough. As did GOA. Just not one self righteous indivual named Gideon.

F

I dont think its punishment enough. He just has to go and buy a new account. And then he is back. Or did Goa leave the account open and only delete the chars?

L

Lochlyessa

He had to buy a new account. And didn't you say losing all the time and effort and money that brannor's put into his account would be terrible?

kr0n lost 2 lvl 50 chars, and all the subscription fees that he'd paid for those chars, over the course of this game. Now, I think, as I've said before, thats punishment enough. You obviously don't however, so let's just leave it.

Well if he would not have done what he did. He would have lost nothing. And Brannor is the victim here. Not the hacker.

Loch my opinion of your morals and standards just dropped 200 feet, wtf are you doing? defending your "mate"?

Your argument is quite frankly ridiculous. This IS a public forum and people DO have the rigth to say what the hell they want as long as it does not conflict with the basic forum rules set out by BW.

kr0n was the dumbass to trust anyone with his "confidential" confession, I dont suppose Revz signed in blood not to tell anyone?

Stop flaming Revz, he aint done anything technically wrong.

Also anyone who is anyone knew the truth anyway, it really wasnt a "GASP SHOCKER OMG WOW" thing for it to be publically abbouced.

Just step back and have a look, there are 2 distinct sides here, the wronged and the wrong dooer, from here it seems plainly obvious which side you sit on.

Wonder if you read the newspapers Lochy? you must despise the reporters who report all the myriad daily crimes commited in this world? cos OMG they told, they spilled the beans, OMG NO NO FAIR WAAAAA!!! :D

Wake up and smell the coffee.

Mkay, you obviously don't want to leave it.

But we've wandered quite a bit off topic here. What kr0n did was wrong. I know that, you know that, he knows that. He was punished for this, which was fair. GOA closed his account, making those hours of work, and quite a fair bit of money, worthless. GOA also doesn't tell Brannor or anyone that it was kr0n who hacked him, even tho they knew.

Gideon comes along, even tho he hasn't played the game for about 2 months I think, and doesn't even have an active DAoC account anymore, and firstly tells Brannor it was kr0n, and then tells everyone else.

My point wasn't that kr0n was right to hack Brannor, which ofc he wasn't, It was the fact that Gideon didn't really have any justification for telling everyone that it was kr0n, apart from 'omg he did something bad, but i'm oh so good so i'll tell everyone'.

I'm defending kr0n? mkay.. and those journalists get paid to report news Solid, Gideon had no reason to tell everyone

So you would not like to know if you had a criminal living next door?

L

Hmm.. didn't really read through your post very well.. but anyway, kr0n ws wrong, I've said that many times, and yet you keep insisting that I'm defending his behaviour. So, i'll say it again.

kr0n was_wrong_ to hack Brannor.

Mkay?

I just don't see why Gideon should turn a private matter into a public one.

Yes, I prolly would. But let's consider the peadophile register thingie, which is the only know list of criminals that I'm aware of. It's a matter between the police and the peadophiles themselves, isn't it? If someone suddenly published that list in a forum, everyone would be like 'omg you fool, you're sacked and going to jail' etc.

Using your analogy, whats the difference here?

All the discussion about who lost which character and who's account got banned is so irrelevant!

Someone broke into Brannor's pc, stole personal information and used it

Thats the same as breaking into someones house and taking their personal belongings.

It's a crime! A real, against the law, court-case , criminal record type crime.

How many others ip addresses do you think the perpetrator has access to?

What if that person decides you are the victim for today?

I can't believe that the readers of this board are discussing it as if it was another "cheat".

I cant blame Brannor for wanting to know who did it, but this thread was unnecessary.

I cant blame Gideon for wanting to name and shame, but he was dealing with something a little more serious than screen-jumping here and should have kept quiet.

I cant even blame Layl (if it was him, there is no real proof made public) for being so arrogant about it. After all, he's rapidly being turned into some sort of anti-hero here.

Just stop trivialising it eh?

<yeah, i know.. sense of humour failure, but sheesh!>

He's never been a hero to begin with, Lunar.
