With all due respect to Chelsea, I don't understand the signing of Sturrige. I think they could do better with their money - my opinion tho :).

Could it be that because he's english they have a player who will benefit them regarding champions league rules about home players?

I heard he had pay as you play offers from 2 major clubs (Liverpool and xxx) but he is holding out for a full time contract.

I would think the Villa have offered him a pay as you play. It is the only basis to sign him really, he was a great player but now he is pretty much a washed up croc.

I am not surprised really, he will be injured again 4 weeks into the new season.

Why will he? He has been relatively injury free for 2 seasons now. Hes only had minor niggles that all players get.

From the beeb:

1240 BST - AC Milan have confirmed they would be interested in Arsenal striker Emmanuel Adebayor if they fail to sign their number one target, Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko. (Press Association)

I've talked to a few Arse fans who think getting rid of Gallas is a good idea.

Silly if you ask me, he is your best defender, and the times you struggled last season were when he was injured, or not fully fit. Toure is much more of a liability. Gallas also give you some fight, something lacking from the rest of the team.

I think he upsets team harmony too much. And i think with the right Partner Kolo is a solid CB. But it seems like one needs to leave and i would rather lose Gallas. Gallas and Silvestre out and one more CB in please. I think Song will play CB more this season but he has ACN duty with Kolo.

Nail Head Hit.

Ask any coach worth his salt and he will tell you that team harmony > team ability

Milan are reporting they turned down only one bid for Pato, it was from an Egnlish team and they described it as a "monster bid".

Back to the first page we go!

Papers today reporting some of the same in Ribery/Aguero bids.

City supposedly closing in on Eto'o - any idea on potential replacements Marc?

Rumours of Arsenal joining the race for Ribery & Benzema too, i'd guess more likely if they're shipping Adebayor off to AC

Tevez and Eto'o up front for City next season, few more defenders and even I might start taking them seriously.

I think it could take a while for the team to work as well. And they need to get rid of Robinho :p

Robinho was throwing his toys out of the pram because he wanted better players around him, with possible signings of Tevez/Eto'o, maybe he will change his attitude.

why do they need to get rid of him? He got 14 league goals for them last season, which is a very good return for a player that played more of an attacking midfield role than a out and out striker.

i dont rate eto'o at all, stroppy git. so im a bit sceptical about this touted move. way i see it is... hmm... break the bank for eto'o or have a more well rounded forward for a fraction of the price in huntelaar... hmm.. no brainer

Hope you are all watching Spain v SA in confed cup today - thrilling game in the second half.

It's just gone into extra time, with SA equalising at 2-2 in the 90th minute with a stunning free-kick.

Huntelaar is no where near the class of Eto. Eto is a world class striker.

The Eto deal wasnt signed as of dinner time yesterday according to my mate, but discussions were advanced. As for his replacement, Barca are still hoping for David Villa. They are NOT interested in Ibrahimovic as the price tag has put them off.

I am surprised Barca are willing to break up their attacking trio, considering how well they performed last season.

What are the reasons behind Eto'o going, is it his choice? Is Pep being ruthless as he was when he took over last summer? Can't find any trustworthy stories on this.

sorry marc but huntelaar IS a world class striker... he's young and has an all round game similar to alan shearer... clinical finisher with either foot, physical presence and a damn fine header of the ball. he's up for sale and anyone who gets him for less than 20m will get a bargain.

Agreed, 2 years in a top league and he will be the finished article.

In 2 years he will be 28 (i think). There are better players than him at a much younger age.

Huntelaar got 8 La Liga goals in 20 games? Etoo got 30 in 36 if you could have either the choice is clear.
