The RNLI is the charity I care about. Not least because I kayak. When mum died last year, the RNLI was where the donations went.
The problem there is - how much of those 17,000 are migrants in the channel?
For me - the RNLI should be protecting us all. If, for example, 50% of RNLI funding - all charitable donations - is going to the south coast then that's distorting the purpose of the charity.
The government should be funding migrant boats out of general taxation. The RNLI should be focussing on protecting all of us - not being financially compromised by the south coast.

That makes me feel:3% of RNLI callouts in 2022 were for migrant boats. 3%. This is a non-story. 290 out of over 9000 callouts that year.
RLNI have really good open access data so you can check claims about migrant boat numbers with actual rescues
