So, mental kid who'd been on prevent's radar for years when the state had multiple opportunities to intervene gets put away until he dies. Whatever. I don't really care.

What actual reform are we going to make to our processes and procedures - in schools etc (because there were obvious multiple safeguarding failures with this child) to stop this happening again?

The teachers aren't allowed to really challenge them, they get punted around various special needs specialists, never actually getting anywhere.

"Human Rights" innit? There is no effective process until the person actually commits the crime. There's no mechanism to commit or incarcerate for "public safety" until it's too late. This fucker was clearly mad as a balloon but he didn't fit Prevent's "terrorist" profile, because in all honesty he wasn't a terrorist, he was a psychopath cosplaying as a terrorist and even if Prevent had intervened as a terrorist threat it would have made fuck all difference because it was a mental health issue. Prevent is basically useless.

We had 3 kids go off our roll today, that's one day being home schooled, it's an increasing issue and the resources aren't there to properly support it.

Reading that article it looks like a history of agencies not engaging - even when asked for support and when knives were being carried into school etc.

Even Starmer says the state failures are glaring.

The state has failed at a lot of things over the years, look at the grooming gangs, police and councils were complicit in covering that up until it got brought to light, even some of the MPs were telling victims to keep quiet for the sake of diversity etc.

I think the whole system is fucked tbh, they can throw as many law changes at stuff like this as possible, when the people that are meant to be safeguarding it all fail, then no law is going to change shit. I think anyone and everyone who dealt with this should be fired and/or sent for major training.

Edit: Also, more strict hiring practices put in place to vet out the utter shit staff/total dossers who will inevitably fail again in future.



All that said - I'm pleased he got 52 years minimum, given our shitty out of touch sentencing guidelines it could have been a lot less... I still think he got off lightly though, he should never see the light of day again. He NEEDS to die behind bars.

Edit, I do like a bottle of French now and again, but I often think I am paying extra because it's French.

If you're telling the parents of an 18 year old to keep knives away from him because he could hurt people, he should probably be sectioned.
