did you finish all 8?

I think I've done at least 2 on level 8 solo, both the increased damage and increased health. A lot of it comes down to which abilities you gain.

Although my sub runs out in 20 or so days, not intending to extend it ATM.

you are talkint about twisting corridors not normal torghast as unless it is for shits and giggles why would you do level 8 more than once - get the mount and ride around the maw done? Although I like the solitued and the challenge so maybe Ill go in to level 8 again before they increase it who knows...

The improtant thing for Disc Priest is to stack stamina above all else and pick up damage midifiers inbetween. The levels are ok to 12 but after that where I did not have the health it became a little hairy. I found the 18th level boss easy vs the layers 16 and 17 which could be a little testy.

I have no issue with anpr. I wish it would be deployed further to remove those scum that dont insure or tax their vehicles.
I'd have not problem for that use-case.

But it's used to build a traffic database of who went where, when. Police are routinely abusing their powers to collect this data on law-abiding citizens.

Its used by the city charge people to track you around london for instance for when you have to pay congestion charges and it can be used to look for individuals who are wanted.

where is the evidence that joe public is logged each time they go past an anpr camera? Not saying they arn’t and outside the big cities anpr cameras are not that wide spread. Only installed on popo cars as they drive around which cant really track you very well.

The only way they can track the bad guys is by tracking everybody, that's how it works...

Yes. What i am saying is that anpr isnt so pervasive that they are able to track your journey start to finish. Just where you have passed a anpr camera. Except maybe the centre of london or other big cities which use similar tech for charging tolls

Yes they can, that's the idea.

If they had these cameras up they would be *everywhere* like they are in China.

It's a way to regulate behaviour.

Everyone just wear a Bill Oddie mask whilst driving.

They are everywhere round here, I pass at least 3 on my 5 mile trip to work :)

They are there mostly because of the truck crime that happens on the huge industrial estate that I work on, right next to the M1.

All over the place m8. You can't move street by street in Nottingham or the surrounding area without being tracked. The po-po put up signs saying theres an operation in progress to cover themselves legally. They're all rusted to fuck.

Mate of mine works at the council - he put all of the designs in (and then put the infrastructure in) for ANPR on all of the traffic lights. Then he was told to remove that part from all of the blueprints - which he did.

Well that's an interesting point isn't it? Are ubiquitous cameras actually regulating behaviour? I'm not sure the crime figures would back that up. The whole idea of The Panopticon is that we don't know when the State (or in the original model, prison guard) is watching, so we act as though they are watching all the time; but I don't think that's happening at all.

In China, where the social scoring piece means genuine negative consequences (with values of negative all the way up to execution/organ banks) then maybe people do act like they're being watched, but even there I'm not sure that's what's actually happening.

I think it's very much in it's infancy though, sure, we won't overtly do what China is doing by being pretty open that admitting that they can track all their comrades, but I'm fairly sure the West is taking notes.

I envision a future where it'll be implemented through positive reinforcement; 'we saw you pick up that crisps packet and put it in the bin, here's 50p.'

But even then, that's just public spaces and you could argue that implementation of a system where you push the bad away from the public view then the State is just going to create a greater issue for itself in the long run.

So basically, that's a really great argument that we should stop spending huge swathes of public money on cameras, their maintenance etc.

If they don't drive behaviour, then what's their point? Spend the money on schemes that drive down criminality.

Like education, and prison reform and rehabilitiation.

I don't think so. The UK has been the most surveilled state in the west for 20 odd years now; the idea is massively socialised by a million tv shows and...crime is unaffected, particularly amongst people who literally grew up with this.

And I just don't think the UK can go to the overt model you're describing, because that's the point the pushback would start. Ironically it only works at all because we don't really notice it, but it doesn't work anything like as well as expected.

They don't need to make them visible. They only have to make speeding cameras visible. They are on nearly every bridge.

Fucking horrible things. When I actually have to go into the office it's about 30 miles down the M6/M5, and the only part with an actual hard shoulder during rush hour is the 7 or so miles of the M5 at the end. OK they've got refuse areas, but if you've had a breakdown that stops your car there and then - like a puncture, electrical failure etc and then and you can't make it you're a sitting duck. I have seen so many near misses frankly I'm in shock how these things ever got approved.

In Ireland they even have hard shoulders on single-lane roads. They obviously value them over there :)

Sorry, on the flip side I do remember the difference on the M62 around Leeds before and after it was smarted. The congestion was reduced noticeably on days where there wasn't an accident.

Probably all been a waste of time and money though. Recent job advert in Leeds said that even after Covid it would now only be 2 days per week in office and 3 at home whereas before you were lucky to get 1 day at home per week so traffic won't get back to those levels again.

I can see a lot of that which makes things like HS2 even more of a waste of money/environment.

Yep. And the massive new roadbuilding scheme that sunak is using to pay his mates billions.

As soon as self driving cars come along congestion should disappear...
