Agreed. My company has stated that anyone who can work from home will continue to do so until at least mid Jan 2021 and then it will be a controlled return to the office. They also have noted that full time office working (ie 5 days a week) is going to be a thing of the past.

Exactly the same for me. Also as I've been walking around locally in London passed the many office buildings I have already seen floors that have been completely cleared out and are sitting there barren. The number of people in the city has gone up since lockdown ended it is still a fraction of what it used to be. If that doesn't change next year the entire City of London will be a very very different place in the future. There must be many companies looking at their 10 year office leasing contracts for exit clauses.

My brother-in-law runs his own civil engineering company; he reckons most of the building contractors are finishing up their existing contracts and then that's it; office building in Dublin will have stopped dead in the next 12 months. If you're in the commercial property game, warehousing and data centres are the only areas of activity.

Turn them into housing, instead of digging up more and more countryside.

My departments are begging to go back to the office - most really hate home working - from
An efficiency point of view however it is the same or better and sickness levels are nearly zero.

Yeah even the guys in my team that loved it initially are now keen on going back, will probably be mostly remote until end of year

I think the pandemic has shown many Companies that home working is perfectly viable and can lead to reduced costs as they don't need expensive office space. Employees like it as it removes the cost of commuting which offsets the costs of working at home. I normally do 3 days at home and 2 in the office. Having said that I have been to the office several times during the past few months to do equipment installs, build a pre-prod environment. Luckily I can gain access via the back door :)
For me it's the time cost of commuting rather than financial. Having an extra 2.5 hours to do what I want every day is genuinely life changing. Some of the company will have to go back, but I've been told I can WFH full time and just dip in and out of the office when I fancy. I was looking for a new job, but thats changed with this news - in the short term at least until we see what everyone else is doing.

My mate has just given me his Pixel 3 XL to play with. So far, I quite like it.
Still trying to get my head around Android 10. Took me half an hour to install YouTube Vanced!

Pros
No curved screen. Lovely and flat
Seems faster than my Note 4
Camera is better
Battery is definitely better
Headphone jack
No ridiculous slippery curved glass back
No Bixby
No Samsung Galaxy Store

Cons (so far)
No micro SD slot
Android 10 (restrictions on using old apps & widgets, restrictions on installing Unknown APKs)
No LED notification light
Double tap to turn on works, but bizarrely there's no double tap to turn off functionality (I have this on my ASUS tablet)
No Bloatware (just google crap)
Apparently some performance issues playing high-end intensive games (not tried PubG or CoD yet - later)

I'm getting more done at home but finding the isolation difficult, my wife is a teacher so has been at home for the last 6 weeks, which has made it better, but she starts back on Tuesday so I will be back to rattling about on my own again.

Another issue is that I basically work on my gaming PC, in the living room, which is where I relax in the evenings so the borders blur a little bit.

I made my own PC gaming desk, built into a bay window so I am sizing up making a second desk/work area in our spare room if it goes on for much longer.

I still have to go into the office sometimes, at the moment it tends to be 2 half days a week.

What I wonder about is how office relationships would develop if everyone starts working at home, we are lucky at my work that there is a core groups of people in our finance department that have worked together for 10 years+ we run an exceptionally well oiled machine, we all know what each other does, how and when. If we had barely met each other I am not sure how that would work.

This is my only concern as well. I'm lucky in that I've been with my company a long time and have a lot of very strong relationships there. Not sure how that's going to work when we bring new people in.

This made be laugh a little bit (well, not laugh but cringe slightly)

Why would you trap a bird with glue to shoot it? You might as well stick a paper target in a tree.

I shoot, so its not an issue with the shooting, just wtf is the point in essentially gluing birds to trees to shoot them?

*I only shoot magpies, crows (both pests) and the odd pigeon (pests and delicious)

I'm in a pretty similar boat as it goes. Wife also teaches and I've been using my gaming rig as doing data work on a laptop screen is awful.

I got sick of the gaming rig a few weeks back during the heat so since work offer VDI access I turned my RPi4 into a dual screen thin client. I'm probably the only person on the planet who now likes the 2x Mini-HDMI ports but everyone else was wrong because passive cooling desktop for the win!

I find it takes a lot more effort to stay in the loop on what's going on in the business in general. In an office it's dead easy to strike up a conversation to find out how people are, etc. It's not so simple remotely. You don't just bump into people at lunch or in the corridor.

Having problems connecting my WD HDD to function with Pixel 3.
It works perfectly with Note 4 on Android 5.1.1
Says I need to reformat the HDD
Bollocks. Its ExFAT. There's a TB of films on there. I'm not reformatting it, thank you.

Managed to get it to work with Total Commander and an app that wants £10 to allow me to carry on using it longer than a day.

There's got to be an easier, cheaper, way....

I quite enjoy working at home. Wouldn't mind the odd day in the office for some socialising and that.
If working at home became a more permanent thing I would get a dog.

I wouldn't be able to get a dog if I did my normal working in the office. I would be away too much of the day.

Will wait and see what happens

Funnily enough that is exactly what we have been discussing, getting a dog, ordinarily we couldn't have one if we were both out for ~8 hours a day but if this turns permanent then.

I want a Rhodesian Ridgeback, I love solo wild camping/hunting.

Wife wants a Scotty or a Westy, she loves staying in bed until lunchtime.

We have some wiggleroom to overcome.

The Ridgebacks are lovely dogs. Had a Labrador Ridgeback cross which was an awesome dog.

Wife used to want a St Bernard until my sister got one, that turned her back garden into a recreation of The Somme. Lovely dog though.

Nothing on Solid Explorer.
My HDD works on Windows. It works on my note 4. It worked on the Note 8.
But doesn't work on Android 10 Pixel 3 XL

Last resort would be to copy the entire HDD to my laptop, connect the HDD to the Pixel, allow Pixel to reformat the HDD, copy the files back on, then check again.
Seems kinda extreme. And there's no guarantee it would work after a reformat.
