The fucking cheeky twats.
The absolute arrogance of it.
How about we scrap the licence fee and stick it on a utility bill so we can keep on raking it in without the hassle or bad press.

Just fuckingunbelievable.

TV licence fee could be replaced by broadband levy, says BBC

How is this "unbelievable"? This has been under discussion for years and has actually been implemented in multiple countries either as a broadband levy or a "media tax". Even if the Tories decided to give up funding public service TV tomorrow, they're not going to forego a tax revenue stream.

Have you been living in a cave for the last 20 years? (I forgot, you've been living under a bridge)

I think you might have missed the huge groundswell of contempt for the BBC and the strong push to reign in its abuse of its monopoly.

To even suggest such a move which is purely based on passing the buck to utility companies shows their utter disconnection from reality.
I would support a worldwide broadband levy to rid the web of advertising and tracking scripts, with the bbc only getting a small fair share.

But to directly continue this farce by other means is beyond contempt.

So what? Its still not "unbelievable", its totally to be expected. Which was my point.

My personal view is that the BBC is unsustainable in a polarised world; it is impossible for a public service broadcaster to be the echo chamber for people's biases which seems to be the preferred model for 90% of humanity, so no matter what they say or do in news, even when trying to be impartial, will be "wrong" for a significant minority. The fact that a majority of Britons want the BBC to become a subscription service, which completely misses the point of public service broadcasting, only serves to confirm my view.
Three-quarters want BBC licence fee abolished, poll finds

I for one, as a former employee, will be sad when its gone, and I've always maintained that having a BBC wasn't really about the BBC, but the fact that it constrained the worst excesses of the other commercial media companies, but I genuinely don't think it can survive without the goodwill of the population, which it no longer has, even if most of the population don't understand why that is so.

The difference is that right wingers/brexiters complain they are constantly attacked and belittled by the BBC.
While the left think its biased for even having Farage on tv and strongly feel the bbc is right wing for even allowing them a voice.

Which sums up their entire world view.

I will be sad if we have to have adverts on bbc channels to fund it.

i like its differences and support its ability to change short notice to support the situations that affect the population rather than having to broadcast to the populations masses that will give them the best ad revenue.

i think the bbc news website while it has its own journalism flaws its better than a lot of agencies.

If its complained about by both sides i think they are doing something right

Theres a huge difference between.. in fact a fundamental difference between calling someones argument bogus and not allowing them to have it in the first place.

Thats how it works here for years and has made it cheaper for majority and ensures everyone actually pays, having a public broadcaster comes with its own set of problems, for example the last gov here tried to suppress a story about the PMs son being involved in dodgy deals with Russian mobsters, it all backfired of course but makes you wonder how many times they have suppressed stories without it blowing up

All in all i agree with @Moriath, the fact they are not beholden to ads means they can take risks others cant, and focus on longer term, if they are allowed to do so i i have no idea

It has started working like that in Sweden this year also and it is superb. It is just part of my tax bill under govermnet services and because EVERYone has to pay I am better off because of it.

So....the answer to widespread dissisfaction with bbc and its licence fee is to make it easier for them to take it out of our bank accounts, while giving them distance from the legalities and bad press of sending non payers to prison.

And you think that would be splendid.

You seem to be confusing dissatisfaction with the license fee with dissatisfaction with the BBC itself. You only think the latter is widespread because they don't agree with your distorted view on the world and whatever echo-chambers websites you lurk in.

Any reduction in the license fee.....which is open to all broadcasters actually, they just dont take it....will result in a totally different bbc.

Just had an email off myheritage.com . They are offering their photo colourising service free. I've slung a couple of old B&W pics at it and I'm really impressed with the tech tbh. Need to register but not sub.
