Why not tell the people that are "job seeking" to work on them instead of playing xbox all day? Minimum wage but work is work. Get out in the fresh air, meet new people, often accommodation taken care of.

I really wish I had done something like that for a season or two in my youth.

Seasonal minimum wage work for a few weeks away from home? Joy. That'll solve their long-term job problems (and stop em job hunting for something decent). Great work for an 18 year old who wants a bit of spare cash when off travelling maybe.

The Polish are happy to do that on the cheap. The uncertainty, poor working conditions and unscrupulous employers (who often in actuality pay them well below minimum) don't seem to bother them as they go where the work is on a migratory lifestyle.

My personal solution would be to make things more expensive so we can pay proper wages but despite all the food waste generated by our cheap throw-away consumerism the public would be up in arms if strawberries were priced realistically.

But hey. Roll out the old trope of lazy kids and xboxes so you don't actually have to think about the real issues eh?

They are paid exactly minimum wage, according to the law. If someone isn't then it is up to the law to make sure they do.

Part of the problem from the employers perspective is simply this, should he hire a poorly educated immigrant with no prospects who thus is guaranteed to stay full season

Or employ a brit with some a levels who wilp jump into first entry level office job they can find?

And for the applicant is it worth applying for things you know (duenti things like travel or relocation) might cost you more than you earn and then leaves you unemployed again in a few months (upon which you have to go through the hell of reapplying for everything again)

If you have to get in-work benefits then thats the taxpayer directly subsidising businesses. Tescos staff get in-work benefits when tesco's could easily afford to pay everyone minimum £11/hour and still take home £3bn profit for shareholders.

Instead UK taxpayers money goes to support people in Tesco's who aren't paid enough and the profit goes to shareholders. So basically - UK taxpayers money is going into the pockets of the rich.

Same here, I left school without a single GCSE, not even shit grade, I didn't even bother attending the exams, I lived (and still do) in a rural area with very little in the way of available jobs.

I have been out of work for 3 weeks total in coming up to 25 years, and that was only because I had got a nice wedge of redundancy and took Xmas off. Doing pretty well for myself now.

No excuse, at all, if you are willing to start at the bottom.

The world is full of shit, bad paying jobs, if you start paying the bottom rung massively inflated wages then you have to start paying those further up the tree better wages and so on, which means companies costs go up, which mean prices go up, which means the new lower wage is just as crap as it was before vs the cost of living.

People expect someone to look after them when really they should get off their arse and look after themselves.

Yup. So you do that for a bit. Gain experience of working, which is a shock for anyone leaving full time education, learn some skills, communication with fellow colleagues, learning how your actions connect with other peoples actions and move in to something else, slightly higher up the ladder.

Its not that difficult if you have a bit of common sense and arent dumb as a toaster...but who is going to give a natural idiot responsibility and the salary that it attracts?

Put yourself in the shoes of an employer. 2 candidates going for the average salary job (25k isnt it? Whatever) person A has spent the last two years doing absolutely nothing, person B has been working and wants to improve their lot in life. Fairly simple answer but then person A's CV would have been in the bin, personally.

No. It might be a shock for someone who didn't study hard - but the only shock upon starting work for a lot of people is A) how easy it is and B) how intellectually demeaning it generally is.

Rebalancing of renumeration to lessen inequality is the only way to solve it. Otherwise the natural idiots take the only smart option open to them - give two fingers up to the world and go on benefits.

I have also worked long enough to know that formal education doesn't actually mean anything in most cases. Lots of stupid people have degrees in the same way as lots of people that excel barely had an education.

Edit. It is every persons responsibility to look after themselves and do the best they can do, in whatever field they choose. People should not expect something for nothing and certainly shouldn't expect others to work on their behalf. The only reason anyone should essentially live for free is if they are incapable or in the very rare occurrence, and I will acknowledge there are some (not many) areas, where there is no work. CBA is not a reason for not working.
