I tend to avoid stuff that inconveniences/annoys me though, like the Go Compare adverts, I'd never use their site cause of how bloody stupid their adverts are :p
I like the new one, the bird gives me the mega horn.

I (not the Mrs, just me) appear to have been filling various drawers and cupboards up with total crap over the years. Don't even get me started on the garage.

Leads for equipment I will never use. Old phones. Boxes and containers, belts 20 yrs old, jeans I'll only ever get into if I chainsaw a leg off, radio aerials, shoe boxes, broken kitchen equipment, black bin bags full of unknown stuff, stuff from B&Q untouched etc . Need to have a major chuck-out.

I had the same. Threw it all out then a few months later I needed some of the stuff I got rid of. :(

I obviously move house a lot more than you. I've made throwing shit out into an art form. The only thing I can't throw out...those cables you mentioned. I have about four plastic boxes of cables and redundant PC gear that I just can't throw away, and amazingly I actually found something I needed in one the other day.

But all the rest, yeah, I'm good at binning that stuff. The last big challenge was getting rid of about 800 DVDs. I've ripped the lot, but I was still reluctant to get rid, and those MusicMagpie type services don't exist in Ireland, so I gave the lot to charity. I still kept the BluRays.

Yeah? I'm keeping mine I think. However, I've got 8 big bin liner full of VHS's clogging up my landing at the moment ready to go somewhere - though probably the tip. I doubt charity shops will take them.

The bird is reluctant to get rid for some reason (despite the fact that I'm never going to use any of them ever again - it does kind of look good in a nostalgic retro kind of way when they're up and displayed).

Should do it today really.

@DaGaffer Out of interest what did you use to rip all the DVD's as I'm considering a similar operation.

Well if you rip it yourself you can at least set what quality or filesize you want the output to be at rather than relying on a 12yr old Romaian who doesn't understand encoder settings.

I use DVDFab. Its worth the licence; lets me do BluRays as well. @Scouse is right that it takes ages, but I just used to let them run overnight and before I went off to work. Much better quality than torrents in general.

Meh, just get 720p x264 rips of your current DVD library. Better than DVD quality, reasonably small file size. Can fit your entire library on a 2Tb HDD prolly...

And you can line 'em all up in an evening's work and just leave your torrent client doing the rest. One DVD rip a night will give you 30/month, whereas you could probably d/l your entire library in half that time...

Except for a few nostalgia ones, the VHS tapes went years ago. I used to be a real hoarder, but it was when I went travelling that everything changed; I had 2o years of comics and books collected that I could have stored while I was away, but I just bit the bullet and flogged the lot. I regret it every now and then, but in the main it was very liberating.

I'll never get rid of the comics or the books, but visual media just ain't that special tbh.

Books look great on a shelf. Comics feel like a treasure trove when you open the cardboard boxes with your mates on those once-a-decade comicathons :)

They were taking up an entire room. Literally couldn't get in, never mind see them on a shelf. I actually did the maths once, spent more than the cost of a new 911.

I want a library or reading room. Always have. It would be fucking immense and Id probably become more of a social recluse than I am already. But a happy one.

I see Michael Jackson has a new album out soon, impressive stuff seeing as he is dead.

I for one will pirate it and then delete it.

I've ripped all my CDs. They are first on the list to go. Charity shop will probably get them as can't be arsed flogging them on eBay, and I can't think of anyone who will want them (Motorhead, Sepultura, Skid Row, Wagner, Bach... an odd collection TBH) . My VHS tapes went years ago.

I have ripped or downloaded all of my CD's DVD's and Blu Rays and they now all live in flight cases. I get about 800 disks into each which saved so much room.
