I'm gonna go for a complete naive comment here so feel free to shoot me down.

Doesn't the Government give extra money to disabled people to make their lives a bit easier, IE, to stop this sorta stuff being a problem of the companies?
Yes she has a disability car which is a standard hatchback. But because she can complain she fells like she is entitled too. She is an objectionable fucker.

I do acknowledge though that she is probably a minority.

He really wasn't disciminating though was he? He was saying that they should pay the same amount depending on what sort of vehicle they want.

Tough shit for him. He cannot discriminate against disabled passengers. Hopefully he'll be taken to court and kicked up the arse.

They should be expected to pay the increased rate just as I would.

Every time I go gym, there always seems to be a different black guy who wears a hoodie (up) and a hat.

I don't get it.

I kinda want to agree with you. Got a lot of sympathy for that view.

But I can't. They're fucking disabled. They live with that every single day of their lives whilst watching able bodied people all around them not struggling in the same way. It must be demoralising in the extreme.

Give 'em a break. The guy runs a taxi business - he's not going to go bust because he picks up disabled people.

There's a billion taxi companies, this is the first one who's a big enough money grabbing cunt to make an issue out of it. A couple of extra quid on regular taxi journeys adds up quickly for a disabled person. A couple of quid less profit (for he's still making a profit) for a taxi company owner and maybe he will have to forego a couple of latte's here and there.

Worth the price of not kicking disabled people whilst they're already down.

In a dog-eat-dog world, I think this might be the issue. If they started giving cheaper rides to people then they will lose money and that could be the start of a downward spiral. We have no idea what sort of margins his business operates under.

Not really, there's companies out there that will give disabled people a taxi happily, it's down to the company to accept/refuse a customer, stop being a commie, damn you.

I can fall down on either side of this. Disabled people have the option to get a disability car which they can use to help them get around with their condition I am not sure I think it is fair to suggest a business must offer a disabled friendly service. What if they just said look we only send a minibus for parties over 5 people and we do not have any disabled friendly single passenger vehicles is that ok?

It apparently ain't tho, is it. He's going up before a court because in our stingy capitalist economy we still think disabled people deserve a break - and he's being a big enough cunt to defy the law for a few extra quid profit.

The owner of the company himself knows it:
Mr Bashir told BBC Tees the decision was "morally totally wrong"

But it turns out Mr Bashir, who ain't going broke, is a big enough cunt to make an issue out of it.

Maybe Mohammed is a bit like Glen Hoddle and thinks disabled people deserve it because of bad things they did in their previous life eh?

Just trying to find a reason why a single taxi firm is making an issue out of something all other taxi firms just get on with.

I'm conflicted about it. I understand your sentiment, but the reality is that running a taxi business isn't actually very profitable. The other issue will be that usually taxi firms have drivers who use their own vehicles and will have a few larger cars on the roster. If the drivers of those larger cars take disabled people at the lower (4-seat rate) they're effectively subsidising both the disabled person and the company. Eventually they'll give up running the larger vehicles altogether and go back smaller cars, and lo and behold, no vehicles for disabled people at all. NB. I do know there are a surprising number of transport allowances disabled people can claim, although I have no idea what hoops social services make you jump through to get them.

The whole issue of disabled access is a bit of a minefield tbh; access policies are the right thing to do, but the costs of doing so are in no way made up by government grants etc.

On that basis you must also expect that disabled people cannot enjoy the parking exemptions that they're presently free to enjoy? And that businesses must charge disabled people entry to their premises, after all, those businesses have spent money installing access ramps just for them?

Cut them some slack. They don't want to be disabled and the law helps to give them some form of compensation for their suffering. The taxi owner is being a selfish dick.

It just ain't the case tho Gaff. The law's been like that for a long time and this is the first time it's been made an issue. It'll be less of a profit - not no profit.

The fucker won't be losing money. He just won't be making as much.

As a society we've decided that it's right to help the disabled out - and we all foot the bill in small ways. Mohammed the Crip Hater is throwing his selfish toys out of the pram is all.

Yeah, as a society we decided to help people who are disabled, you're right, and I completely agree with it, that's why they get money, cars etc, but I think there's a difference between Tesco painting a few lines so disabled people can park and get out safely and a bloke trying to run a much smaller business, don't forget, taxi drivers work on a great deal of commission, If taxi driver A decides to get a mini-bus, because it carries more people, and therefore makes him more money, why should he be out of pocket? Say he's doing a 50 mile journey to the airport, and he can either get a disabled customer who's paying for one person or a full mini-bus, it seems... unfair.

You aint gonna get a perfect answer either way tbh, there will always be issues.

This is true.

But look at it this way. When he bought his 8-seater minibus he knew that he'd have an obligation to take disabled people, but figured it was still worth the extra profit on the big journeys - and bought it anyway.

And loads still do. So it ain't hurting them that much. It's selfish mo and his attack on the spak that's got it wrong - not "society" which has, rightly, decided to cut disabled people some slack for the daily shit that they have to live in.

It gives disabled people a shot at being more equal in a world where they physically aren't. It's one of the good things that humans have achieved and this selfish cunt business owner is trying to drag us backwards.

Actually you've got absolutely no information to back that up. You've got a less fuel efficient vehicle being charged at a lower rate. I have no idea where the line for profitability is (e.g. fares taken per day/running costs) but I do know that taxi drivers are having to run their cars at almost 100% utility these days to make a living (there was a big thing about it recently in Dublin because there's over-supply of taxis and most of them aren't making money), so it probably doesn't take that much to drop from profit to loss. Its easy to say "well no-one's complained before" but a. most people would be nervous about raising such a contentious subject, even if it was costing them, and b. costs are only going one way, up, maybe the tipping point has been reached.

Funnily enough I'm inclined to believe the guy because its such a PR nightmare to discuss it.

Some businesses need to close then.

What we don't need is desparate businessmen shitting on the vulnerable disabled in an attempt to make more moolah in an over-supplied industry.

Whichever the "right" way, i still think the disabled should be having this discussion and doing the demanding.

I always find it funny how middle-aged rather completely healthy white folk need to right the wrongs and toot the horns of all the "poor people with issues of not being white and healthy" :p

How far should it go. If the company gets a call for a 120mile round trip for 8 people and a half a mile trip for a disabled person. Should the owner be allowed to tell the disabled person he cant do the journey or should he throw away the much bigger job out of a social obligation.

It is only the fact there are disability cars and the fact they can park nearly anywhere which is giving me doubt in this.
