and this is why i am not a "dog person", ive never known a cat snap and maul a small child

Nah. Cats just curl up on babies and suffocate them. :)

All my cats have had a pop at something or someone at one time or another. They've all snapped.

Like Toht says tho - they can't do shit.

No seriously, all dogs should have their teeth filed flat, having a dog with sharp teeth should be a criminal offence, the injuries would go from flesh ripping to bruising.

I'd rather have doggies with pressure jaws, like a german shepard, bite down with sharp teeth then blunt ones to be honest.

The law doesn't say "only prosecute people who've brought their dogs up to be super aggressive - and which will prove they're chavs".

Also - how could you possibly prove in court beyond reasonable doubt that owners have "trained a dog to fight"? I'm pretty sure that's not part of the law either.

If the owners get done for this whilst they're on holiday it will be a miscarriage of justice.

Lets be honest here. As @Ch3tan said - the law has been brought in to placate the idiot masses who hate chavs with ugly dogs.
My point was and still is. The law has not been used to placate the masses. If it is then fine you can get as mad as you want. Currently they have opened a door to be able to charge people. Just because your dog bits someone it does not mean the judge has to use the maximum sentence available.

And it is very easy to tell when a dog is aggressive. You just look back at the number of complaints made about the dog. The case where the dogs killed the girl with the meat pie is a perfect example. The lady had bread them to be aggressive and regularly boasted about it. Also dogs used in fighting normally have physical signs they are used in that way.

There seems a basic disconnect here @soze. Dogs have a mind of their own and can turn. It happens.

When it happens in a park some mother who's dog has never bitten anyone is going to get prosecuted.

But meh :)

The Law has nothing to do with a Park though. It allows the same prosecution if your Dog bites someone in your house. The dangerous dogs act already covers public places.

These are the guidelines based on the old rules @soze

Basically, it's against the law to allow your dog to be "dangerously out of control".

What's dangerously out of control? Well, if your dog decides, out of the blue, to bite someone then it is dangerously out of control. - not the running around before bit.

How are you supposed to know?

There are additional penalties if you deliberately use your dog. But you can still be done if your dog simply turns. Which they do.

All the new law has done is made it easier to give unfortunate people longer sentences in more places.

You are overthinking this - its pretty obvious when a dog is reacting aggresively and such dogs will have a long history of reacting similarly. The good owners will walk such a dog on a lead with a muzzle - the bad owners dont. The law will punish the bad owners if it attacks someone - simple.

Dogs dont suddenly turn savage without cause.

i did specify maul not kill :p

I stayed in a guest house that had a huge psychotic tom cat - it had bitten chunks out of people. Also the Mrs was attacked by a cat round the corner from us that left rather nasty cuts on her legs - you have to be careful of infection from cat bites/claws too.

That is a rule that has been in place since the 90s? The only difference with the new rules is you can be charged in your own house now. So what dose dangerously out of control matter. Since the 90 we have not had thousands of people sent down (for a maximum of two years) when something happen in a public place so I see now reason to think it will happen now in a private residence. Fuss = over nothing.

One of my past cats, a lovely and loving burmanese, 14 years old, snapped at my sister when "denied" food.

Background is, when she was just a little wee kitten, my sis used to play with her, but on the rough side, holding her head, making the cat uncomfortable. Years went on, and one morning my sis is the first in the house to wake up, walk to the kitchen, fix herself something to eat. Cat follows, meaows, trips her like all cats do when demanding attention or food. My sis ignores her completely, then goes back to her room and sits on the edge of the bed.

Cat jumped at her face, claws on and all bitey, partly because it was ignored, partly cos it sort of disliked my sis due to abuse.

Said cat never hurt anyone, and she was very lovely and affectionate with me (I was the alpha to her, so to say) and my mum.

My worst pet injury is due to a Cat. I walked up behind our old cat while he was asleep (and a bit deaf) he scared the life out of him he jumped one way then right onto me at chest / face height. There was lots of scratching and my arms were bleeding a bit but once he calmed down / woke up he was fine. I remember the looks I got at the vets that say explaining he had lost 4 claws in our battle and she pulled one out of the side of my head :) Had to get an arse injection after that too :(

How is that a prank? He's just committed about a half dozen different crimes according to UK law.

I would have taken it off him and wrapped it round his head. He could then tell his "fam" all about it innit.
