yes, and no, sorry :)

thing is Aoami mate, you really don't need an Airwaves wristband to enjoy a lot of bands during the festival: there are tonnes of off-venue places and even stuff going on outside. Thing with the off venue gigs is that you really kind of need insider information to find out what's what and more importantly...when. You only need a wristband to get in to official places like Harpa, etc.

Very happy with my Radeon, though it is the end of the series before last, up until then they were always better than Nvidia (imo) or the difference was so small it came down to price, which AMD generally won on.

Yup I got a Sapphire 7970 last year and it's fantastic. I'm thinking about watercooling (it sounds like a hoover when the fan's revved up) and it's a bit of a pain for this card because it's not reference so nobody makes a waterblock especially for it but for the amount of gaming I do it's perfect.

I think the common opinion is that Nvidia are "winning" at the moment though, I couldn't believe they didn't get on board the console cash-wagon somehow. AMD are doing CPU and GPU for XB1 and PS4, if they make this Mantle API work how can they not win? Engines are already use it - there's already a "Mantle" patch planned for Battlefield 4 (although I think Dice were involved in the development of the API a bit) in December that will do away with Direct3d and OpenGL. It will mean easier porting to PC with far superior graphics at the flick of a switch or, conversely, making fantastic games for the PC and then winding them in a bit for the capabilities of the consoles.

Aye, I've an AMD - haven't bought Nvidia in ages.

I disagree with this tho:
improvements in integrated graphics have hurt demand for discrete GPUs in general

What's hurt demand for discrete GPU's in general is consoles and game development for a cheap and technically inferior platform.

I haven't had to upgrade my PC in years because games developers make shitty fps's for a shitty format that pushes no technical boundaries. As can be seen in the article:
"Mantle" -- a programming tool which unifies game development across PCs and consoles

So. PC games will continue to be held back by shitty inferior console specs. Why bother upgrading?

While they did talk to M$ & Sony they didn't try that hard to win the business. It was basic economics. Nvidia are already making a killing in the high-end gfx card and standalone FPU / supercomputer industry at present. Making new chips for consoles was a lot of effort with little return, they made next to nothing for the XBox chips as M$ really pushed them on price. While AMD could cut costs (and power) with a combined CPU + GPU offering.

Those little sachets of silica gel: it says throw away after use.
How do you know when they've absorbed their max moisture?

Some change colour but the cheap stuff doesn't - you can recharge it by drying in an oven at very low temperatures (if your oven goes low enough).

Tis the season for conkers :)

there used to be a smashing conker tree in the park behind my school in the UK. I loved it so much I went to say goodbye to it when we moved to the continent :'(
