Very often overlooked by the boy racer brigade, turbo's hugely increase torque, much more than bhp and for accelerating it's a lot more important.
I had a MK3 Escort turbo championship car, hardly any turbo's about then in hot hatches, if any.
I screwed the wastgate shut for a laugh, it broke traction in third on a dry road when it hit 3000rpm, the noise under the bonnet was unbelievable, nothing could stay with it until the diff let go, which kinda saved the engine actually, it was detonating like a grenade.
