I wonder how long the list would have to be before a Scottish city came in on there...

I'm sure they'll have moved up the list since London went from 'toilet' to 'fucking toilet' after the riots :p.

Actually I think you'll find we all came out and made everything nice again with brooms, or something.

1: Melbourne - OK, but dull looking. If I had to live in Australia, it would be here.

2: Vienna - Expensive

3: Vancouver - very pretty but oh so boring.

4: Toronto - fucking freezing

5: Calgary - even more fucking freezing

6: Sydney - even prettier than Vancouver, only slightly less boring

7: Helsinki - fuck me, what's with all the freezing cold cities?

8: Perth - the most remote city on Earth...

9: Adelaide - Dunno much about it so can't comment

10: Auckland - Wow, the one place in NZ that I'd rather not live.

Brilliant list; everything's either freezing cold or terminally tedious, or both.

Don't southern Canadian cities have proper seasons though? I have family in Canada and it seems to have proper, predictable winters combined with proper, predictable summers. Here in blighty, we get random shite all year round and caught with our pants down ever winter because we simply can't predict it.

I actually like the cold.

Yep. And while Toronot is a really nice city, it's dull as fuck. There's little to do. How there's no Swiss places in there I don't know either, list seems to have been made by the Oz tourist board.

i think they choose liveable as in education, crime, transport etc etc

not how lively or fun a city is :p

Helsinki is very easy to live in because the majority of things work, Hull on the other hand is a city where nothing works, but Hull is a highly entertaining place to live (Helsinki is not too bad but you need to know where to go, what to buy or you will get screwed)

Hull an entertaining city to live in?! Seriously!? Your idea of entertainment must be really, really grim.

Yeah Helsinki is quite a good place to live. Transportation is ace, haven't been in even a near fight in 10+ years, only got "mugged" once as i was drunk and took a wrong turn(bruised knee as i fell :p), schooling is ofcourse your regular Finnish 9 year pro stuff and order is...well..orderly. Healthcare works well too.

Expensive as Finland is, but good still.

bbc2 tonight - horizon "the core" 9pm

For centuries we have dreamt of reaching the centre of the Earth. Now scientists are uncovering a bizarre and alien world that lies 4,000 miles beneath our feet. It is a planet buried within the planet we know, where storms rage within a sea of white-hot. `Horizon' follows scientists who are conducting experiments to recreate this core within their own laboratories, with surprising results.

if anyone missed it:

BBC iPlayer - Horizon: 2011-2012: The Core
