They played the worst gig i've ever seen in my life, and ive been to a lot. I've seen them a couple of times since, and they were much better. I don't dislike the band particulary, and i had a lot of time for ATDI. They admitted themselves they played a crap gig.

Worst band ever live? Dillinger Escape Plan, several years ago in support of SoaD. Most of Brixton academy (a bigish venue) sat down in protest at how hilariously ghastly they were.

Worst gig ever? Happy Mondays, G-Mex. Inspiral Carpets were the support and they were fantastic, but the Mondays were fucking awful. Saw Black Grape years later at Reading and they were way better live.

How can a venue full of metal fans sitting down actively for your performance on a beer ridden floor be a sign of a good performance or band? :)

Yep the Monday's often disappointed live, saw Black Grape years later though at the Manchester Apollo and they were really tight, suprisingly so considering all the drugs taken in the years before.

I highly doubt the audience for System of a Down are at all similar to Dillinger :p They used to get a lot of stick back in the day like, I literally have no idea why.

It's definitely there if you have a trained ear for it like! Not for the easy listening crowd etc ;)

My mind is very open. :) No hiding away from the fact that a lot of metal is anti-aesthetic. Some do it better than others. I personally think DEP do it very badly. I like a lot of metal btw, I grew up on it.

I wouldn't call Dillinger anti-aesthetic by a long shot like, they fit a lovely technical niche in my heart, each to their own though and all that.

Technical ability and aestheticism are different entities though. It's perfectly possible to be one without being the other. Lots of musicians make technically brilliant music that doesn't sound 'good' (for the want of a better word), or intentionally jars the ears.

True enough, but what people consider 'good' is entirely subjective. I can totally get why people feel that way about the likes of Dillinger, I just don't fit into that category. Some bands like them just wouldn't have the same effect should they not be playing stuff to 'intentionally jar the ears'. :)

edit - reading over my posts each time, I seem to be making less and less sense. I should really go to bed

Hah I'll read a post, reply, then a few minutes later thing 'ooooh, he meant x not y', ugh. I'll leave on this; I get the whole business around not 'sounding good', but I'm going to maintain my tired stupor and stubbornness and personally disagree! G'night :D
