Part of me thinks "at least someone has a decent union, get your pay rise". The other part thinks "read the room".
Ditch the second part, keep the first. Add in a pinch of "why do we allow billionaries to exist whilst there's food banks" and solidarity across the working class population and we might make some progress.

As, unfortunately, I live in the real world, I'll keep the second part thanks.

If you think rail workers being on shit salaries is less important than you getting to work, then fair enough.

That sort of thinking is why most of the country is on slave wages tho.

They generally aren't on shit salaries. It's a relatively very well paid job.

It's well paid because they've fought and won that pay. Bit of a lesson there don't you think?

Imagine if teachers turned around and refused to do any out of hours work.

Train driver maybe. But this is a general strike of the Rail Maritime and Transport Workers union - "railway workers". And there's a fuckton of them on fucking awful salaries.

Maybe I'm not "reading the room" right - but I doubt it. It seems very clear to me that a lot of people only support strikes (or protests) when it doesn't inconvenience them.

Or did you just read "train driver strike" and forget everyone else?

All the NEU does is send strongly worded texts about the government every now and again.

Imagine if teachers went on strike.

Read the room Gwadien - parents want free fucking childcare. You get paid enough anyway and sooooo many holidays. ;)

The average salary for a railway worker is still well above the national average...

A rail strike does not inconvenience me in any way

Despite the fact I said the complete opposite

Less likely to be a big deal now, we did without trains for a big long time there, so more power to them but I doubt it'll go as well

I can't say I'm that bothered about train strikes etc because I rarely use trains and the last time I did was about 23 years ago however it remains silly that in the age of more automation that trains, you know the things that are probably easiest to automate, are still driven by a person.

So why object?

It's pay and conditions. Setting aside the fact that there's plenty on not far off minimum wage (station staff and the like) why shouldn't people on national average wage not try to better their lot when inflation is running at 10% and their gas and electric bills are about to triple?

The national average wage is shite anyway - so is it just jealousy?

What I object to is these people who are already paid well walking out of work and stopping people who rely on trains such as nurses and doctors getting to work. NHS staff and teachers can't get a pay rise for love nor money, and I'd love it if they staged national walk outs, but obviously they won't because they actually care about the people they have a duty of care for. RMT know they can get away with it, because in general they are only slightly inconveniencing people, but somehow they still always get what they want.

If this was just about job losses, i'd have loads of sympathy, but it's not, once again they're leading with "substantial pay rise".

They are already on silly money for a job that is essentially pressing stop and go when prompted. You could get a raspberry pie to do that.

It's all a conspiracy between the union and the government to remind people that unions are bad mkay?

Also, if these pay rises come in, who does the extra cost get passed on to? People who use the trains. So a small amount of people get more well off at the expense of everyone who relies on public transport.

In general they're not. You ignored that point. National average wage is shite. Inflation is 10%. Energy bills tripling.

So what's it really about - is it that they get paid more than nurses? Do you have to be in absolute poverty before you're allowed to try to better your not-actually-that-great lot?

Should they have to suffer, just because others are suffering too? Sorry m8. Smacks of jealousy to me.

Rail workers. Not "train drivers".

If the NHS was striking, would you go "fucking doctors - they get paid shitloads" - or would you recognise that not everyone in the NHS is paid bazillions?

Same for rail workers.

Put in wealth caps then.

A vanishingly small amount of the population own more than 50% of the wealth in a system that is very good at producing wealth.

Yet - food banks, underfunded health service, rubbish education system and a shite national average wage.

I didn't ignore it. The average salary for all rail workers is nearly 10k higher than national average.

Yes, my issue is that there are people who are far more deserving and in need of pay rises, but the RMT seems to have the govt over a barrel for some reason.

Disaster IMO:

How do we stop pollinators transferring edited genetic material to other areas?

We've so many better ways to produce more food than we can possibly eat. :(
