Yeah he's a big lad. Terrorises next door's micro-dog-thing, they have to bring it in.

Took part in a "mass trespass" (even though it isn't) of the A57 Snake Pass today (old road between Manchester and Sheffield). It got closed a few weeks ago because a small section had subsided and moved toward the river. So every man and his dog were walking and cycling on a road that's normally utterly terrifying to be on if you're not in a car. The council decided they didn't like this, they claimed that lots of walkers+cyclists and hardly any cars = extreme danger. Note - they said nothing about the danger from landslides or the condition of the road. Their justification was purely cycling = dangerous = stop it.

So they claimed they closed the whole thing to everyone (unless you live up there, in which case you can drive to your heart's content). No legal basis for the full closure - a temporary traffic regulation order for the few hundred metres of subsided road, but nothing for the 12 miles they were stopping people using. So about 100 of us went up and cycled past the closed signs, full media coverage, everything.

The actual damaged section of road is a few hundred metres long, and you can still drive over it if you live up there (see the traffic lights). In fact the entire road can be driven on if you live or work up there. So no real danger. The rest of the road is in perfect condition.

Pretty much zero cars up there. Loads of hikers walking along a road normally chock full of bikers doing 100mph and barry boys in their shitboxes. Lots of people cycling, enjoying the amazing views. Council didn't try to stop us because I think they realised they had no legal authority to do so. And right around the corner is Kinder Scout, and we all know the history of mass trespass over there. I went across to Sheffield and got the train home.

Saw this on a cycling forum, made me laugh (as it's so familiar):

Gets closer.

<Rings bell again>

Still no reponse from the two older ladies walking in front of me.

“Morning!” I exclaim cheerily.

“You should have a bell. My husband’s deaf!”

“I do!” I reply and ring it again.

“My husband can’t hear you!”

Puzzled, I now look around for said husband, guessing that he has not gender re-assigned and is in fact the other woman.

“Erm, where is he?” I enquire mildly bemused.

“He’s at home!”

I'm going to say it's an hour and a half of a degenerate.

Yeah, I'm out, I am afraid.

Just finished a mammoth meal in Chinatown

Someone ordered Jelly Ear Mushrooms
They looked and tasted like a Marrigold Rubber Glove

10 years or so ago our next door neighbour used to fill his diesel car with a mix of diesel and cooking oil. Drove fine apparently.

I used to do that back when veg oil was 50p a litre. Costco did massive drums of it. As long as you keep the mixture thin during the cold months, you'll be fine. The danger comes with expecting your fuel pump to drag thick, gloopy, cold vegetable oil into the engine during winter. Summer months I used to run it at 100% no problem.

I drive a petrol now, I won't have a diesel again.

Worked fine with old school turbo diesels, mostly French stuff from the 90s. Anything more modern will shit the bed if you try it.
