Anyone thinking of getting M2 storage for PC or Laptop the Samsung Evo 960 and 970 series, which are excellent, are heavily discounted right now. Picked up a 500Gb 970 on Amazon for just over 80 quid.

That's pretty damn spanky.

I've already got a 1tb NVME jobby as my main thang but I'd probably still be in the market for one if there were any games worth playing that could fill my drive.

But it seems not :(

And fuck the whales!

I mean, when the leading global super power is ducking out of things right and left, I think it's excellent that other countries do the same.

If the population of the world isn't going accept that we're destroying our planet, we may as well accelerate it.

I fully expect them to hunt them to near extinction.

But I mean, why would they care about international pressure when the US President has U-turned Americas environmental policies and is actively destroying the environment for profit? (because it's the easiest option).

It does seem bad..but the Minke whale is abundant..why does a whale have more right to life than the Tuna..outside of the size and the fact that we have an amotional attachment to them.

Agree 100%.

Apart from emotional.

I think there's an argument for hunting techniques though - dragging a ship with harpoons isn't a nice way to die.

Because their life cycle is human equivalent and whales are some of the most intelligent mammalian life on the planet, with familial loss being felt strongly across pod, inter-pod and region.

There is no equivalence between these giant mammals and tuna.

It really is true that one of the things that holds our dumb as fuck species back is that we have to learn each lesson individually for it to matter.

Maybe mandatory cyber enhancement and borg-like information sharing is the only thing that can save us. :(

I dunno, I think we like to make animals look dumb in order to justify eating them.

Sure, I'm not claiming that cows have the same intelligence as a whale, but I think they're far more intelligent than the average person would think.

What I do find fascinating is that historically the Pagan religious groups were aware of the relationship between humanity and earth, and somehow through Christianity we have lost that, so where we once had no idea what impact we had, humanity still thought the relationship was important. Now we've come to the stage where we're aware of the impact we're having but not really giving a shit about the relationship.

This is true. And what the disgusting Japanese government is doing against all scientific evidence.

They've come out and said the whaling comission is not 'fit for purpose' because it has voted not to lift the moratorium.

I'd argue that Japanese culture is not fit for purpose when it comes to treating animals ethically.

They could argue the same for the stuff they're not really interested in that we eat.

It's the same for eating dogs - the amount of times I've seen 'don't visit X because they eat dogs' is crazy.

I feel that they're completely justified in the world we live in right now - what's the point continuing the moral crusade when you're the only one on it?

Apart from the science doesn't support it.

FFS how many times do I have to say that? You're a teacher :(

There's huge evidence around whales. We didn't ban whaling because whales are cute. We banned it because the science was stark and obvious. They are hugely intelligent and harmed mentally and socially from hunting, and because of their lifespans and reproductive rates incredibly vulnerable.

So the more intelligent you are and the more your behaviour mimics humans, the more right you have to life.

I 'm just checking that those are the qualifying factors...I would very much add cute, but you dont like that because its emotional...and emotions cause you too many problems in other areas.
What it comes down to is we give Whales a majestic freedom, they are like the masters of the sea...we have romanticised their voices.
But if there were captive Whales ..bred in tanks and the meat was standard fare in Tesco sandwhiches, then we wouldnt give a shit...about the captive ones.
The ones at sea would still be special, because killing them seems unfair.

This article from 2001 sums up the Japanese argument.
Its actually about western imperialism..not the whaling industry.

'You eat cows and pigs, so why can't we eat whales?'

You can replace a cow with four cows every year and a pig with twenty pigs. You’ll usually get one replacement whale every two years when accounting for gestation and nursing. On the economics alone whale hunting is fucking stupid as a food source (and the “cultural” arguments are bollocks as well; the Japanese liking for whale meat is less than 100 years old). Whale hunting made sense when we needed the oil, something that hasn’t been true for over a century.

NB. As it happens I do think we should massively cut beef and diary farming on inefficiency grounds as well; much as I love steak and cheese, beef farming is an environmental disaster. Chicken and pigs have a fraction of the impact and sheep and goats can feed on uncultivatable land.

So presumably you're mocking them for predicting that the UK will lose the 6th spot but lauding their accuracy for saying they'll get it back?

Obviously total fucking guesswork.

We could stay in the EU and have a 50K jump in the FTSE....we could Exit and be hit by a meteorite.
And all inbetween.

You could indeed say all of those things, but the odds of all of those things happening are not equal, so no, its not "total fucking guesswork", its a balance of probabilities. Personally I'm hoping for the meteorite, but my expectations are low.

All depends I guess how you choose to see it, like any stat.

Huh?

We're going to leave the EU - the Economy -will- decline because it's a massive amount of uncertainty and the markets hate that.

So for pretty much the most important years of my life, the economy -will- be in the shit.

That's why I'm going to Gwadxit.

My Grandad was adopted, his real parents were Irish. Hm.

Sorry, you're a generation out. If your granddad actually had an Irish passport you'd be fine, but it sounds like he didn't, so no Irish passport for you.
