I think you’re confusing the victory of the English language (which is emphatically true) with English culture (which isn’t really respected at all). Britain is actually really good at many things, and yes it still “punches above its weight” in finance, the arts, tech, innovation etc. But “punches above it’s weight” doesn’t mean “major player”, a category error British people (not just Brexiteers, all of us) make all the time.
